Made as a piss-take at all those poorly done self-portraits of guy's trying to show off their 'sexy 6-packs', except I used a real camera, not a phone.

It seem that you are being very satisfy, very proud, or somethings that I cant describe in English. It fit perfectly when you spoke out "I'm so beautiful.".

A cannon EOS 350D, 50mm f1.8 lens and a 18-55mm f3.2-f5.6 lens, thats getting upgraded.
If you havn't already, I'd recommend switching off automatic and going onto manual (presuming you have a camera with manual functions) and reading through the instructions that came with the camera, if like me yours didn't, then google ^_^.
And then just mess around, read up on what the functions do and experiment so you can see first hand ^_^

Haha, is it wrong that I actually like this picture? Not in the gross way obviously, I just the grungyness of it, and the angle it's shot at is good. Something to think on when shooting for magazines

Well, in my experience those kindoff images come across with descriptions along the lines of:
"Mn I'm hwt 2 fck! Wll upld mre l8r's! im f2f ryt?"
I don't mind peopel shortening down words, or having less than perfect grammar, but when you have to spend several minutes trying to work out what it means....
Also, dictionaries are heavy.

Fair does. First attempt of using them for a while, I tend to leave stock images/texture alone
I've got the kit lens, 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 and a 50mm f1.8
Just upgraded my kit lens to a 17-85mm, just waiting for it to come in the mail.

In regard to texture - try experimenting with layer blending modes rather than opacity

Blending modes - Something that's obvious.... but easily missed
