haha, I LOVE this robot's design. Not too human but fantastic capabilities of expression with those two big eyes. Love the 'whoops now whut?' pose too.

I always really thought this guys design was interesting. It's rare, like my own work, that we get to see this guy in color. I like the fact that one eye has color and the other is monochrome.. makes it look like the little screens showing his pupils are malfunctioning.
I really can't NOT see the heads of those giant Irken walkers when I see his head. Do you notice it's the same shape? XD
I like that, what looks like, rubber siding on his torso. I'm guessing its rubber so his torso can bend.

Mech-Maker In reply to Half-dude [2009-06-11 06:07:16 +0000 UTC]
XD the reason a number of his aprts seem mismatched is because he frequently upgrades himself.
XD and I've never drawn that similarity before.
It's supposed to be metal plating, but there might be some rubber in there XD;

So for one, STEEV is an acronym right? For what?
I find this character pretty interesting. Is he a robot who achieved sentience?

Mech-Maker In reply to Half-dude [2009-06-11 15:42:34 +0000 UTC]
Yup, STEEV stands for Software Thieving Elusive Electronic Vandal.
He comes from a planet where all robots are sentient. They were originally created by humans many millenia ago, but for whatever reason, the humans vanished. (either from extinction or migrating back to the mother planet-Earth) So, any trace of people remains in the myths of the robots, some believing they never existed, some believing that they still do live on.
STEEV himself, is just trying to live, with the goal of being as advanced and upgraded as he possibly can get. Thus he steals software and parts to keep him on the cutting edge..Problem is, he's wanted by the MegaCorporation, G-Tech, so he lives somewhat an outlaw life.

Half-dude In reply to Mech-Maker [2009-06-16 21:46:43 +0000 UTC]
Haha is that his original model name? Something's telling me he made up that name for himself.
So this is an alternative universe and isn't Earth? That's pretty neat, I actually really like this idea.. it's almost movie worthy.
So he has an addiction for upgrading eh? He'd better be careful, make sure none of those parts cause an incompatibility issue or I/O conflict. Though I'm sure all that is second nature for him. XD

Mech-Maker In reply to Half-dude [2009-06-19 00:31:52 +0000 UTC]
Something he made up himself. XD His real 'name' is M-MTU-228, originally designed to be like a secratary or assistance droid.
Same universe jsut a different planet way ahead in the future.
>w> He's rather skilled with making sure he equips with the right components.

Half-dude In reply to Mech-Maker [2009-06-19 05:06:22 +0000 UTC]
Exactly what I figured, now how about his real name? Is that a serial number or is that an acronym too?
OOOOOh, very interesting!
I'd guess so.. XD

Mech-Maker In reply to Half-dude [2009-06-19 05:22:24 +0000 UTC]
In universe, it's basically the name he was given at the production line. Out-of-universe, the M-MTU jsut means: Mech Made This Up. XDD;

Your lines are very smooth, very well formed, and mix with the style perfectly. The colouring and shining is superb to the tiniest detail, the drawing itself has some of the best examples of master artistry I have seen. How you manage to work personality, expression, and emotion into a robot it simply mind blowing. I love the details on the left hand's apendages, but they seem to be missing the same style of detail on the other hand. It may be a lighting effect, but I still find the right hand to be lacking the same realisim of the left.
Other than that, the shading is well placed and realistic to the full degree.

Thank you very much. ^^
I think what I was trying to do with the hands was show that they are of different componenets. STEEV often upgrades and replaces bits of himself. His head is probably the most complete section of him in terms of original parts.

Gvozdi In reply to Mech-Maker [2009-06-11 01:11:59 +0000 UTC]
I wish I knew of that detail, therefor I would have not of mentioned it in my comment.
I like the concept, I am intrigued greatly by the character. I think he has gained yet another fan. STEEV FTW.

Mech-Maker In reply to Gvozdi [2009-06-11 01:50:08 +0000 UTC]
I should have mentioned it in the artist comments or something. My bad.
If you'd like to know about more of the world STEEV comes from, the most I figured out is he comes from a planet populated by robots. They were first created by humans many millenia ago, but for whatever reason-dying off or simply migrating away-the humans left. Now, the only trace of people exists in the fairytales and myths of this newly developed robot culture. ^^

Gvozdi In reply to Mech-Maker [2009-06-11 01:58:40 +0000 UTC]
No harm done. ^^
A plausible reason may be that some robots were deamed useless or defected, therefore they were left one some planet to be used as a junk yard. Of course, the A.I within the robots developed to a point of understanding, and self-awareness. As they advanced, they soon began building their own civilzation. Well, there's my thought on that concept.
The idea of humans becoming a myth and urban legend is interesting, especially considering how we were promised robots ten years ago and we are still awaiting to see a fully operational one. In a way, they are urban legends to us.

Hmm.. I like that idea. 8D
XD Good point. Where are our robots, and hover cars, and self cooking pizzas already? D:

Gvozdi In reply to Mech-Maker [2009-06-11 02:22:57 +0000 UTC]
Oh really? That is the first time anyone has ever liked my idea. Well, there was that one day at work I convinced everyone that shooting balloons with a dart gun was a good idea. Well... it was until it one of the televisions on the wall.
Scientists promised us hoverboards. What do we get instead? Windows Vista.
Self-cooking pizzas, isn't that considered suicide?

^^ His left arm is different because he likes to upgrade himself whenever possible. That square arm holds a hidden grenade launcher, though he forgets to load it most of the time XD

Oooh 8D I love the coloures! His bi-coloured eyes are quite the unique touch to him ^^ It definitely adds a whole lot of character to him, along with his pose
I do spy a bit of grainyness though Which usually happens when a JPEG is compressed. Might I kindly suggest saving a copy of this lovely work and resizing it to something smaller so it shows up with higher quality?
