Description
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”I have a feeling when people hear this quote they get this ego boost and make themselves feel all superior to those working at desk jobs or something. I need you guys to remember something:
Someone had to make those brushes, someone had to build that canvas. Before even that, someone had to cut down a tree for the brush handle or canvas' frame, the knowledge to choose what tree was best. Who manufactured that hammer? Who made that canvas? Hunters or Horticulturists a like! Someone made those paints so that they could last for centuries.
Look at the monitor in front of you, the keyboard you type on, the mouse to navigate with. I assure you there was imagination in that process, but with out the knowledge to make it so: You wouldn't be reading this.
I know a lot of you who read that quote think of all those jerk-offs who think that art is for sissies and isn't a credible career path: They're being both arrogant and ignorant. Remind them how important imagination is to keep the wheel turning. If they still stand by that thought, then you can scoff and how small minded they are. Try not to do this with your parents. If you're dependent enough, they will ground your ass.
One is not more important than the other. They both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses, but together they make up for all of that.
And just one more thing: If you're thinking of it in terms of how you like to spend your time, ie: reading fiction over non-fiction, drawing things in front of you in oppose to from your head, then by all means ignore this. I certainly adore a good fantasy story over a history book any day. :3
TL;DR: I'm awesome. Fave this stamp.

They both go hand in hand, I think. Going and doing things outside of the box or out of the norm is good, yet some grounding in research and knowledge (as much as you can get at least) is good too. Surreal has some anchoring in the real.

I just love the original quote because it was Albert Einstein who said it, one of the most knowledgeable men ever, and specially since I am mostly and art person, it is just my fav quote
I do not feel superior, it just inspires me, always keeping in mind that by knowing facts and actual like... real life stuff inspires fantasy and helps those who create
you, my friend, are right they are both as important, and as useful

It reminds me of the issue of truth and ideals in Pokemon Black/White. I don't remember the legend exactly, but it makes sense. Truth and ideals, knowledge and imagination... they're like Yin and Yang in a way.

Imagination without knowledge can't get far, and vice versa. How are you supposed to utilize imagination without knowledge?
Example: You need imagination to draw a good picture; but you also need the knowledge on form, shape, etc. to get that drawing on paper. Same with writing. Yeah, you need imagination to come up with the story; but you also need knowledge on writing skills to write it.
Conversly, if you try to draw or write without imagination, you will not get far.
They are both equally important.

Imagination is truly more important than knowledge....knowledge is just what tells imagination to stop day dreaming and do something!

I totally agree with this *faves and copy thumb-code*
But you know, even those who manufactured the brushes or the canvas, or even those who cut down the trees to use wood for paper and brushes had to use imagination to know wood will be a good material to use.
Maybe they tried rocks at first XD or thought of it and then from their knowledge or trial/error they realized wood is the best to use.
They combined what they know about materials with what they imagined an artist needs to cut down a tree or make a brush.
So imagination and knowledge walk side by side indeed.
I'm sorry if this didn't make any sense
English is not my first language, but I get what you're saying and I totally agree.
Thanks a lot for sharing

Fantastic point.
On the stamp though, there's a part where you say "They can become infinite" except it goes "They" in one frame and then it says "they can".
So it kinda looks like "They.. they can become.. INFINITE" So I giggled...
Not sure if that's what you were going for.

LOL I was kinda making it up as I go an I should have put the "they" to the side then add the "can" next to it. Instead I put it in the center and made it stretch out from there. ;;;

I think a lot of people also fail to notice that this quote is originally said by Albert Einstein. He was by no means, one who ignored knowledge for Imagination. Einstein knew the value of knowledge, truth and fact, but he also understood that the imagination is key to development of the brain and furthering of knowledge.
Another of my favorite quotes from Einstein is, "If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales."

This is very true. :3 I like the quote a lot, but I am also irked by it. I have an obnoxious habit of wanting people to see the other side of certain things, and this quote in particular rang that bell.
I just remember my Art teacher having a bitch fit over how there aren't any Einsteins any more because people restrict the art department; Which is true, Art helps us tap into parts of our brain that helps us with a lot of other elements in our life. I just think you shouldn't forget the other things.
On an unrelated note: I enjoy your signature.

Makes perfect sense. There have been actual studies which show that incoroprating any of the different faucets of the arts into a secular education not only increase the quality of life, but helps a student retain more knowledge and perform better on tests and in the classroom.
I for one think there aren't any Einsteins because the the continual lowering of the educational bar. No one expects anything of the rising generation today, so the youth do nothing to push themselves. Isn't it interesting that in the days when knowledge had to be sought for, invented and discovered, people fought tooth and nail to get to it (i.e. the cold war arms race) But now when it's so readily available the majority of people disregard it as yesterday's trash because they think it will always be there and take that knowledge for granted. Everyone is expecting everyone else to do the heavy thinking so they can reap the benefits on Youtube or facebook.
Whatever happened to the requirements of knowing Latin and advanced arithmetic to get into college? The world is spiraling down into a horrible stewpot of abyssal stupidity XP Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now...
In reply to the unrelated note: Thank you :3
