Description Character Rotation of my character Alexa. Front, 3/4 front, side, and rear view. Also showing head size. Again, this was done for my Character & Object Design Final Project. But I'll also be using all of the work I did for the project as character reference for her when I draw the comic.

Head size is the measurement used in character proportioning. The measurement on the left hand side of the page is HEAD measurements relating to her size, **NOT** feet. She is 6.5 heads tall when you *draw* her, not 6'6" as in physical size of the actual character thanks

Using the head size never works for me. I always just draw what looks right. If it looks wrong, I jsut claim it's forshortened or something.... I love her design. She does look like she's standing at attention on the side view. He neck needs a little more curve, at least that's what I think..... mine always come out a little too curved *sigh* lol

mechangel2002 In reply to RogueRider [2007-03-28 05:03:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL we had to draw them as if they would be used for basic 3D modelling, hence why she's so stiff :

in 3D the characters are modelled and then they're given joints and a kind of skeleton which will allow them to move more naturally when animated

This really helped me out for my portfolio. I wasn't totally sure how to do character rotations. Thanks!

No problem I know this one was pretty stiff, often character rotations are more relaxed but we also had to do it as if it could be modeled from the rotation (since we were in an 2D/3D animation program)

you'll need to sort out that numbering down the side sweetheart ... I assume its not in feet, cos her head would be a full foot then. and normally, the numbers start at the foot and work up ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mechangel2002 In reply to jsnfwlr [2005-03-24 08:21:14 +0000 UTC]

No, in head count on character sizing, it starts at the top of the head and goes down the body to the feet. And in the description it explains the measurements ^___^ (kiss)

its a nice design
but she strikes me as a bit short
although she does looks pretty well proportioned.

mechangel2002 In reply to rogue-rpz [2005-03-21 08:28:09 +0000 UTC]

She's about 5'9 (my height) but it's the pants I have on her in this basic design that combined with the boots make her legs appear shorter

... a remarkable job on all of your drawings, a great set with some real personality... I like how she's not your typical 8-heads superhero, I think the shorter figure comes across as more believable and identifiable...

I've always been told that I should use the headsize to measure the rest of the body, but I've always been terrible at that. I try to observe drawings that I like and see how their headsizes are proportionate to the body, and I've found a lot of the time, that they REALLY like to stretch the legs and torso out. ^^

The way the holsters are designed, she reaches, flips the snap holding them in the holster with her thumbs, and whips them out I actually stood up in front of some of my buddies at school and we brainstormed this thing out lol. Cause in the beginning I'd designed her with weapons.... and forgot where to put them. I always seem to do that

jodo-kast [2005-03-15 00:31:41 +0000 UTC]

She's quite compact at 6 1/2 heads but everything fits in where it should based on what I learned in life drawing/anatomy classes. Looks pretty good, all up.
Her foot on the side view looks a bit off. Not enough heel, maybe?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mechangel2002 In reply to jodo-kast [2005-03-15 08:01:39 +0000 UTC]

Head size is relative to the character themselves, not all characters So her head size might be larger than another characters. I guess she'd be about 5'9 if she was real, you know? Like my height. But skinny, and better looking

Hmm the heel looks okay. I duno

arandrahe [2005-03-15 00:09:00 +0000 UTC]

Great job Mecha! Bit of advice though, she looks a bit stiff because her arm (side view) is perfectly vertical. Arms actually don't hang like that (which I learned recently) . Here's a fantastic guide to figure drawing that shows how an arm hangs. [link] Anyway, looks great! Hope you get an A!

The important thing is her stature. Shoulders back, head up face forward
