I thought the same when I designed them: "If the head is a normal spot where to attack/shoot, nobody will expect the butt, at least at first"

Well, I'm glad you like them, but they're really not a character, more of a concept. Also, I'd like to point out an OC is an Original Character, or a character not related to a mainstream series, but rather one's own series or just a character someone made in general, where as a FC, or Fan Character, is related to a mainstream series and is based on it's characters.

Honestly, it's really just the fact that they're robots. I find organic characters a bit boring sometimes. It's just been a thing I've been into since I was a young child, and I don't exactly know why I prefer them.

Me too, probably because we are very used to see organic people and animals around, and robots are interactive like toys, but in big and large. They are like a mix between toys and videogame characters
