Description

While less then a decade old, Acid Hydra is now one of the most prolific gangs in the Commonwealth. Before Acid Hydra, most raider gangs were small groups of usually no more then five highway men only attacking the occasional poor foot traveler with clubs, hatchets, knifes, pipe guns and the occasional manufactured pistol.

Born from disgruntled members of the failed Talon Company expedition south, Acid Hydra is armed with a surplus of prewar weaponry, pistols, shotguns, hunting rifles, and even R91s; but, their greatest weapon is mobility.  With the countless prewar bikes and cars almost undisturbed since the time of the war, a simple methane engine conversion was all that was needed to get them running. Not wanting to compete with the heavily armed gangs concentrated in the urban areas Acid Hydra spread out to overrun the countryside. With their massive arsenal and vehicles the only way to keep a convoy safe is to sink enough money into an armored truck, or pay a fee either to the toll road, rail line, or Acid Hydras little extortion scheme.

Acid hydra follows a rather warped moral code based on brotherhood and loyalty to ones chapter house. At chapter houses they will eat, party, trade, and engage in ritualistic chem trips usually with using Jet or a psychedelic fungus brought northward. While they where the traditional leather jackets of prewar biker and greaser gangs, they have also adopted brown leather pants and jackets inspired by the ancient Native Americans Acid as well as bright dyed multi colored cotton clothing inspired by their drug trips. Most use ranged weapons, a team of sharpshooters will normally take potshots at an uncooperative or fleeing convoy; while, a chase team will engage with pistols while on motorbikes before switching to automatic weapons or shotguns when they dismount. While violent most Acid Hydras will give a second and sometimes third chance for their victims to pay up and leave with their lives, albeit at a much higher price. The acceptations to this are Acid Berserkers; covered head to toe in vibrant dye patterns and almost constantly high, they ruthlessly engage with sawed off shotguns and melee weapons. A berserker's increased strength, stamina, speed, and extreme psychotic behavior come from ingesting or smoking mutated form of hemp that is surprisingly not addictive compared to other chems.

As the years have gone by acid hydra becomes more dangerous. The family farmers that built the modern commonwealth were already struggling survive against the synth plantations; with armored transports and tolls so expensive their is no guarantee that their crops will even reach market. To make matters worse, many Acid Hydra chapters have discovered their is a much bigger profit to be had in the chem trade than in highway robbery. Almost every other week their is a story from the Commonwealth Gazette or Publick Occurrence reporting another farmer forced from their land by Acid Hydra to farm hallucinogenic fungi and mutated hemp.

Most farm folk feel the extra commissioners in the towns are to little to late; rural civil protection commissioners are still far to outmanned and out gunned to patrol the country side or raid Acid Hydra chapter house. While the gunners already have their hands tied with patrolling toll roads, and dealing with both The Railroad and Smuggling Syndicates. Besides there is a snowball's chance in hell anyone from the rural areas would want city slicker jarhead gunners combing the countryside.

The rise of Acid Hydra and increase in Crimson Skin attacks has tested the rural commonwealth’s faith in the appointed technocrats of the Provisional Development Board, the spineless elected officials from the big city, and The Institute that educated them all. These have also been the largest factors in the re-emergence of the Minute Men militias throughout the commonwealth. But even with their early successes, farmers turned vigilantes armed with mere hunting rifles and laser muskets have a long way to go before kicking the biker junkies out of their strongholds.
