for college we had to do a project on typography that was based on Margate. its for the turner retrospective and our finished pieces are going to be photographed and the pictures put up in shop windows to brighten up the place the whole project is for the regeneration that is being attempted in Margate as its severely in decline. its a shame as it used to be a really popular seaside resort

the basis of our pieces was a single word that we chose. i chose retrograde as it perfectly describes margate; in decline. i was going to make a book based on the past of margate but my tutor said that it was going to be a HUGE task and told me to choose one page that jumped out at me. we both liked an illustration i had made of punch and judy and so i took that and made a background which is the pier in margate. i then made a quirky audience and constructed it in a decoupage style hence the shadows.
