Description
I already posted this as a journal - but I'll ask again here;REAL QUICK
I'm in the works of coming up with a color fundamentals tutorial. I have a question for those who are interested :c
-Do you have any examples of artwork that you'd like to be able to accomplish in terms of color? (Illustration/anime/portraits/etc?)
-What do you want to know about color?
-What have you struggled with?
-Any other questions?

Coloring and Sharing tutorial are the things I really suck at no matter what I do - so I'd appreciate any tutorial on this (something that I can follow and understand lol - some tuts just explain things in one sentence kind of thing - which I don't really get how did they exactly do, etc lol) I always had troubles with highlight and shading - like I really don't know how people come up with it and how they do it, etc thus - most of my artwork are usually flat lol. I did do a a vector illustration - but.. it's still mostly (looking flat even though I already tried my best with the coloring and shading, lol) msaishakristine.deviantart.com… - I really love japanese style of artworks - though something like this portrait that you posted is something I'd like to learn as well Or something like this alexxxx1.deviantart.com/art/Po… or this superschool48.deviantart.com/a… haha! Though I would love it if its done on illustrator since most tuts with coloring and shading i see is on SAI (which I don't have and impossible for mac users like me)

How do I know where I put the colours?
How do I guess the colours from a specific skintone?

Hi medders,
This pic is beautiful and I've found your tutorials very helpful for my own practice. However, what I am struggling with is to get it right with the fleshtones. I found, that if I have some understanding of how light works and interact with different surfaces and materials that will give me a better understanding and I will be able to use it in different scenarios later on more effectively. If you could do an explanation on that some time, that would be great.
Keep up the good work and thank you for all what you are doing for us!

- I'd like to be able to draw super artistic and colorful planets, realistically and surrealistically
- I'd like to know:
1. how to create different shades of each color
2. the differences in the use and view of different coloring materials
3. how to have the exact color you want by mixing other colors you have....(like how can I get blue if I have all the other colors exept for that? I know it's a basic one, but still...)
4. to master the use of light and shadow in different ways, according to what I want to accomplish
5. the analogies of color to the pencil or coal (which shade of gray I should use to represent each color and how to create them)
- Mailny, I struggle with male anatomy and color variety in my art
-ummm yeah. One more. Will copying other artists and trying to learn their techniques help me to find my own personal artistic style?
thanks

Well first very effective use of the natural palate for the scene. I really like the soft autumn.
I probably chat a lot but I'm just interested in art.
The things that interest me personally are probably the use of an overall palate in creating an atmosphere in a piece. The use of colour and texture in creating an effect. Particular styles might be the natural representational, and maybe the poppy animé style.

I would say picking the correct shade color when shading. For when I shade my faces, I obviously can't pick black, but just a darker tone of the color doesn't look attractive, even if I go off tone a little. Any suggestions?

My struggles:
-I have trouble with accurately guessing colors when doing studies
-Seeing the value through the color ( i know people say to squint but it's still a challenge)
-I tend to get lost when skin is a different color due to certain color mood lighting (blues and so on)
-I lack contrast and colors tend to take on a yellow tint, you could say muddy
As for questions for colors, uhhh... put those in forms of questions lol.
Thanks for helping if you can ^^

Hey Medders! I can't wait to see your new tutorial * V*
I started getting into painting a little over a year ago and I'm still horrible at it, here's my recent example .
For color, I'm not quite sure what colors to blend like for clothes and objects. For skin, I think I'm okay with it but I still definitely need more practice. But as for objects and clothes, I feel like I'm clueless with choosing colors. I'm not sure when to use grey's or the compatible color palette for that piece of clothes/object.
Also, I struggle a lot with tightening my edges and just putting together the whole picture and sort of "finishing" it. I've spent hours and hours trying to refine but for some reason all of my pictures look incomplete. I'd love your advice on this if you have the time! Thanks so much * V*

Love the way you used light to highlight this piece from certain angles. As an upcoming artist who is very new to Deviantart, it is nice to see different forms of creativity to inspire my own.
The one kind of artwork that would be cool to see in terms of light is portraits!

The main problems I have are seeing how colours are affected by different light, as well as the shadows having warm/Cooler tones.
Another problem is understanding the colours relative to the rest of the painting. For example, The white of the eye looked like a dark grey, when I checked the actual colour on photoshop, it was a dark orange. Things like that

For me I always struggle with how coloured lighting affects hair. Also colour zones in the skin sometimes stump me. I'm ok with the colour zones in the face, but I have no idea how they translate to the rest of the body.

Hey there Ahmed!
First of all, I love this illustration <3
As for the color stuff, I am so excited for the upcoming tutorial! Actually, I've been drawing for my entire (short) life, but I didn't tackled color yet. I was just about to do so, and I didn't know where to start at all, so I'm so thrilled you decided to do a tutorial about this, you can't even imagine! I love the way you explain things.
Anyway, about the questions:
- Honestly at this point drawing anything in color which wouldn't cause any eye hemorrhage when looking at it would be a nice start. But I mostly admire Agnes Cecile and Wylie Beckert for their traditional color work.
- I don't know a single damn thing about color.
- So obviously, I haven't struggled with anything yet!
- And I would like to know what you think is the best to begin with in order to study color: digital or traditional mediums? And what kind of traditional mediums? (Watercolor, acrylics, oil...?) Also, before diving into anything serious (protraits, landscapes etc...) what simple exercises would you recommend to get familiar with color? Coloring a whole buncha spheres I reckon?
There you go! Thanks alot Ahmed, I can't wait to start studying color now!!
Love from France <3

Most difficult things for me on color is:
-The way skin changes color when exposed to different amounts of light/shadow (like how light creates the reddish midtone on skin)
-The color of shadow based on its surroundings (Like shadow getting a blue-ish tone when in the open air etc. (Gurney explains it very nice, but most tutorials feel lacking in this departement))
-Creating scenes with a lot of greenery (since green is tricky as hell to use in painting)
Things I'd like to create:
-More impressionistic paintings with color: thedurrrrian.deviantart.com/ar…
-Using color to push the volume and close the gap of the uncanny valley in more cartoonish drawings: www.deviantart.com/art/Slave-L…
-Using more vibrant and popping colors in paintings, while not breaking the flow and believability of the painting: loish.deviantart.com/art/lumen…
-Creating a realistic environment/quicky/thumbnail using only flatcolor shapes (and some gradients if necessary): cyberkolbasa.deviantart.com/ar…
Hope this might help

Hmm, for me it would be shading with colour without it looking dirty / muddy? As in, what to avoid doing. Your shadows always look so vibrant and full of colour & life!
