I use two small electric heaters and manage to keep the thermostat at 66-67 degrees (F) for my cats. That's what the thermostat says, but the closer you get to the windows and door, the colder it gets. Only the living room is usable in winter. Brrr! On top of that, I have to keep opening the windows and door to the outside to let cigarette smoke (not mine) escape, then heat the place up again. This may sound like an expensive and frustrating undertaking. It is. What I really find hard to bear here, though, is the 24-hour-a-day noise from spring through fall and the fact that we are regularly deprived of our apartments due to construction, flooding, etc. I have to begin giving my oldest cat subcutaneous fluids now due to her failing kidneys, and that simply doesn't go with homelessness. I feel most sorry for my pets.

You're right. Guilt just gets us stuck and wastes time. I live far too much in my feelings and I notice how much they get in the way. Feelings are good and necessary, but once in a while I try to just turn them off for an afternoon or so. Then I can do things that seemed too overwhelming before.
