Plot twist: they were really going for that authentic classic Mega Man feel by having the first game be a total failure, after which they will follow up with one so good that people will remember it for years and eventually call it the best in the series out of nostalgia blindness when many of the sequels outshine it dramatically in many different areas.
Or Inafune's just gonna give up because what's the point now that we actually have Mega Man 11?
