Description
And now we come to final Batman villains fancast. Like I said, I'm casting the villains who aren't likely to appear in live-action outside of something like Gotham, or already have, but I feel like they weren't portrayed properly. That said, lets get into it.Victor Zsasz
Mr. Zsasz is one of the most psychotic and deranged villains in Batman's rogues' gallery. Rivaling the Joker on some level. His shtick is that whenever he kills someone, he carves a tally mark into his own skin. It's anyone's guess as to what happens when he runs out of room. Believe it or not, unlike most comic book villains, Victor actually had a pleasant childhood. His parents were fairly wealthy, and he was quite popular in school. After college, he built up his own fortune, but it was after the death of his parents where he seemed to change. In a way, he's Batman gone horribly wrong. When Victor's parents died, he tried to cope by gambling. Soon, he became addicted. It was actually losing a game to the Penguin if you can believe it that sent him into his true breaking point. Victor had a bit of an existential crisis. Looking into his own soul, believing that there was nothing to his or anybody else lives. This caused him to try and commit suicide, but when he was stopped by someone who wanted to rob him, Victor easily killed him, and from that day forward, he believed that killing people was the only way to save anyone from their meaningless lives. In a way, killing gives Victor Zsasz a purpose. The character had a small appearance in Batman Begins, but nothing more. Anthony Carrigan was fantastic in Gotham, and honestly, I'd love to see him reprise that role one day. I have nothing against Chris Messina, but I honestly found his performance in Birds of Prey pretty forgettable. For our next Zsasz, we need an actor who can really play that special kind of crazy. I feel like no one could fit this role better than James McAvoy. When I saw Split for the first time, I was blown away by his performance. Not only could he play a villain, but he convinced me that he just wasn't there mentally. Especially in the climax of the film where he just goes nuts. How he didn't get an Oscar is beyond me. He just oozed creepy, and I really want to see him in a comic book movie outside of X-Men and Wanted.
Roman Sionis aka Black Mask
Now I absolutely loved Ewan McGregor in Birds of Prey, he was funny, intimidating, and overall just stole every scene he was in. However my one issue with that version is that he barely wore the mask. Without it, he just came off as your stereotypical douche bag club owner. The next time we see this character in live-action, we need an actor who can not only act with their eyes, but can play a good greedy asshole character. Someone who can convince me that they can go off on a hair trigger. If Kevin Spacey was still working, I'd cast him in a heartbeat, but alas, here we are. I'd love to see what Michael Shannon could do with this role, but I think the best option for this role is Sam Rockwell. Sam is just a really fun actor, you can always tell when he's enjoying a role. His performances in films like Ironman 2, and yes, even Mr. Right, show off his talent for playing the antagonist. And I could definitely see him losing his shit on screen and just throwing someone out a window because another scheme went wrong thanks to Batman. He just has that look of someone who could snap when least expect him to.
Andrea Beaumont aka The Phantasm
Andrea Beaumont was the daughter of a wealthy businessman named Carl Beaumont, who was killed by Gotham mob bosses with who Carl had struck deals with in the past. To avenge her father, she dawns the moniker of the Phantasm. A ruthless killer who is dead set on killing everyone who had a hand in her father's murder. Including the Joker. The Phantasm is essentially an evil antithesis to Batman. By that I mean, like Batman she sets out to take out Gotham's biggest criminal masterminds, but unlike Batman, she's out to kill them. Now the Phantasm is a villain who, I think deserves to make an appearance outside of the DCAU eventually. She's recently made her debut in the comic finally from what I've heard, but the character deserves an appearance in live-action. Now to play this character, we need two actors. One to play the large and lovely Andrea Beaumont both in and out of the suit, and one to provide the chilling the voice of the Phantasm. For Andrea, I went for Allison Williams. Particularly her performance in Get Out is what convinced me she was right for this role. Spoiler alert for that movie, but the twist is that she's just as evil as the rest of her family, and she was really good in that role and came and very vengeful and almost sadistic at points. I feel like she could do the same for Andrea. For the voice, I went with the one and only Jonathan Adams. A man who's known for having a powerful voice, and brought to life many animated characters like Dormammu in Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme, Darkseid on Justice League Action, and Kang on Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. If not him, then perhaps Keith David or Giancarlo Esposito.
Jason Todd aka The Red Hood
The former sidekick of the Dark Knight turned into an even more ruthless vigilante who's out for blood. Jason Todd was the 2nd Robin who tried to take on the Joker, only to get his ass kicked, then was viciously beaten with a crowbar, and then blow to smithereens. Thus, he was declared dead. After a bunch of convoluted storylines, Jason came back to life and was pissed off that Bruce didn't kill the Joker, and thus became the Red Hood to do the job he thinks Batman can't do. The Under the Red Hood animated film starred Jensen Ackles as this iconic antagonist, and that film is the reason a lot of people want him to play the character in live-action, but he might be a bit too old for it at this point. Still, it would be interesting to see him reprise his role in live-action. Dane DeHaan would also be a great pick in my opinion. Yeah, he was in The Amazing Spider-Man films, which a lot of people don't like, but have you seen him in Chronicle!? He was f*cking amazing. I also wouldn't mind seeing Adam Driver or Dacre Montgomery in the role. But in the end, I went with Taron Egerton. His roles in Kingsman and Rocketman show he could really capture the anger and frustration that drives Jason to do what he does. He just embodies a role and really gets into it. He's not afraid to really commit to showing just as much emotion as possible, and that's what we need for Red Hood.
Lazlo Valentin aka Professor Pyg
One of Batman's most underrated villains, Lazlo Valentin is the leader of a criminal group called the Circus of Strange. He was a former agent of the espionage organization Spyral who was driven insane by a mind-eroding chemical agent of his own design. After losing his mind, Valentin took it upon himself to don a pig mask and found himself with a passion for medical procedures, and from that point on, has decided to elevate humanity to his perceived ideal of perfection via lobotomy and sterilization. He's like the Leatherface of the DC universe. He's the kind of villain who would fit perfectly in Matt Reeves' Batman trilogy. Michael Cerveris did a wonderful job in Gotham, but our next take on the Professor, we need an actor who has not only played villains but someone who just could make you feel nervous whenever he's on-screen. That's why I went with Vincent D'Onofrio. You don't really need to look any further than Men in Black, Full Metal Jacket, and Daredevil. All of which show off his skills as an actor. Someone who just makes me feel uncomfortable whenever I see him. I'd love to see what an actor like him can do with this kind of character after seeing how much he committed to playing the Kingpin. I could easily see him rockin' a pig mask while dissecting a corpse in some dingy basement.
Thomas Elliot aka Hush
Dr. Tommy Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. One night, his parents got in a horrible car accident, and it was Thomas Wayne who performed an operation to save them. Thomas was able to save Tommy's mother, but not his father. As it turns out, Tommy was the one who cut the brake lines on his parent's car, as he wanted them to die so he could have their fortune all to himself. Wanting revenge on the Wayne family, years later, he planned to get inside Batman's head and drive him to insanity. Said plan involved him freeing the Joker from Arkham, faking his own death, and using his surgical skills to change his face into several different personas. Including Bruce Wayne. Like Victor Zsasz, he's kinda Batman gone wrong. So we need an actor who can play the really twisted and sadistic villain, but also has a lot of class him. Who better than Michael Fassbender? The guy pretty much nails every role he's given. And even when he's in something bad, he's usually the best part. Dark Phoenix sucked, but he still killed it as Magneto, and I think it's time he went for another comic book movie.
And so we've come to the end of my Batman villains fancast. There are other villains I could fancast like Lady Shiva, Solomon Grundy, or Calendar Man, but honestly, I'm tired of Batman villains right now. I have a different one in mind. But who knows I might get to them some other day. I had a lot of fun doing this. Next time I do a fancast, I'll probably do either Teen Titans, or the rest of the Justice League.
