Description I finally did it! This comic has been in the works for a while. I had to do this before I got onto my Half Life 2 comics...

Yes, this is Half Life 1. I got real confused at this part. Why can't Gordon Freeman use a crowbar to, I don't know, PRY THINGS OPEN? Especially a door that looks very ajar and would just take a bit of leverage? I don't know. Maybe he's always had his head too much into books and not enough into practical skills. Except for shooting things.

So this took me about 1.5 or 2 hours tonight to ink and get all nice and spiffy. Going to color it soon, I hope. I'll update it when I do! Critiques are super-appreciated!

Edit: Now in color! Sorry I was kind of sloppy with the shading and whatnot. I also couldn't figure out what colors to make the last panel. =/ maybe I'll edit it later.

Would you believe that Black Mesa Source had the crowbar moved to another room in Sector C? You have to go through that path a whole other way!

The path itself is the same, but you have to fend off zombies with flares, a guard and physics objects. The crowbar doesn't show up until you reach the control room past the lobby through a vent. And it's jammed into the lock on an automated door.

Very nice logic of equations and good coloring effects!

Thanks

But the point is that since he's a theoretical physicist, he always overthinks everything.

...force = (mass)(area)? (accuracy)? (axis)?
Um.
Look what math class is doing to me...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

meganbednarz In reply to CaZsm [2011-03-07 02:34:19 +0000 UTC]

lol yep. Close. The equations are for rotational inertia and torque. The idea is that he doesn't remember how to solve those, so he goes with F=ma which is Force = Mass x Acceleration. Hence the acceleration towards the door

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CaZsm In reply to meganbednarz [2011-03-07 22:51:52 +0000 UTC]

Ah, acceleration! Knew I was missing something obvious.
Genius.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CaZsm In reply to CaZsm [2011-03-07 23:08:09 +0000 UTC]

So if that crowbar for example, weighs 20 pounds, and his acceleration is 3 mph.(I'm really bad with speed lol)
Then
F = (20)(3)
F = 60
Force = 60
Units of measurement can die in a hole.

You can tell I'm really bored.

meganbednarz In reply to CaZsm [2011-03-08 02:59:28 +0000 UTC]

Usually if you're doing a problem like this, you'd measure feet per second. I'd say he's going about 20 feet in 2 seconds, so that's 10 feet per second. Don't forget to add in Gordon's mass too, since he appears to be crashing into the door full-force Usually force is measured in Newtons though, so you'd have to switch to metric for units... meter-kilograms per second-squared.

Looks great.

There is this site that does Half life based videos.
Do you remember the beginning of half life in which Gordon rides the monorail to work? Basically Gordon is riding and complaining about how late he is and some other stuff.

Unfortunately my error correcting memory has gone south and I forgot the site's url.

For some reason its more fun to smash stuff than to pry stuff.
