Farlina DeMarchamp thought she had finally found the solution. After yet another attempt by several unscrupulous family members to dispose of the rightful Heiress of Edgemoor, Farlina had found something useful.

Perusing an old historical tome, she learned of an ancient castle called Magnif, home of a powerful sorceress who was said to be able to grant any wish. Farlina had struck gold: If she could find Magnif Castle, she could wish for irrevocable proof of her rightful status as Heiress.

Reading about the many traps of the castle, Farlina realized she would need both high-level magic and great physical strength to reach her goal. Having learned from past mistakes adventuring solo, she recruited the talented mage Luna Lale, as well as the powerful barbarian Ranhilde to accompany her on her quest.

After gathering supplies, the trio made the trek to Magnif. Though Farlina was eager to enter, Luna advised caution: An engraving on the door, written in a magical font, warned that a steep price must be paid for the services of the Sorceress. Farlina didn't care: She had gold, and knew she could easily pay any fee...

After Ranhilde forced open the door, Luna disabled several magical barriers before the trio reached a large dining room. At the end of the table sat the Sorceress, congratulating the ladies on breaching her security.

Identifying herself as Madam Mysti, the woman had the girls take a seat, conjuring up plates of food. Enjoying their meal, Farlina conversed with Mysti about the prupose of her visit. Mysti admitted that she could easily grant Farlina's wish, so long as she could pay the fee for such. Farlina proudly declared that she would pay any price. After all, once she became Empress of Edgemoor, she could easily provide Mysti anything she desired.

Smiling, Mysti confirmed that they had struck a deal. Snapping her fingers, both Luna and Farlina suddenly collapsed. Realizing what was happening, Ranhilde leapt to her feet, only to be paralyzed by Mysti. Using Ranhilde as a puppet, Mysti forced her to bind and gag the two unconscious maidens. Demanding to know what the evil woman was going to do, Ranhilde got only a wicked laugh in reply...

Luna and Farlina awoke a few hours later. Realizing everything was upside-down, the pair quickly looked around. They realized they had been hung by their ankles, susoended over a cauldron. Glancing, Luna noticed something: Ranhilde was standing in the corner of the room, bound and gagged, with her arms tied directly to the ropes suspending the pair above the cauldron!

Stirring frantically, Farlina saw Mysti enter the room. The vile woman told Farlina to calm down. After all, she claimed, they had made a bargain. Mysti WOULD make Farlina the Empress, AFTER she and Luna were molded into mindless puppets that would carry out Mysti's orders. Cackling, Mysti pointed at Ranhilde as she grew tired, struggling to keep her friends from falling into the bubbling cauldron. How long could the famous barbarian hang?
