Description
Ahhh this one down, 5 to go!I have a bunch of drawings and very little time to get stuff done, anymore, but that's ok!
Anyways, yet another Les Mis idea because, say it with me now, I'M AN OBSESSED TARD
There's this moment in the book that's... not really in any other adaptation; not in full anyways... the musical has it for like, 20 seconds (because dag nabbit, a pace needs to be kept
So, what's going on?
Well, Monsieur Thénardier shows a much more sinister side; after his Inn went belly-up, he's been hustling money any way he can, in this case, being a begger... however, once he recognizes Valjean, he gives a sob story on how much he'll need... a lot... and convinces him to come back later, since he clearly wouldn't have that kind of money on him (Valjean agrees, trying to be the nice guy)
When Valjean shows up again, Thénardier greets him along with 3 other dudes who are heavily built and armed with things like a hatchet, an iron bar and ... basically, they were going to kidnap the guy and force him to give more money by threatening Cosette, once they extracted his address from him.
Valjean has an amazing poker face and insisted on playing dumb this whole time, despite being beaten up and tied down so he couldn't get away; inside he's freaking out for Cosette, but maintains a stoic, "You got the wrong guy" look
Either way, it's a very intense scene and I wanted to recapture this moment where Thénardier makes a significant, damming conclusion:
Through this WHOLE ordeal, Valjean never cried out for help, even as he tried to climb out the broken window, even as he was forced back in and piled on by 3 other people and kicked around... they never covered his mouth or made him unable to speak... that's because if he were to call for help, the police would show up... and being an ex convict evading parole (the fact his crime was minor is irrelevant)... he doesn't like the cops any more than Monsieur Thénardier does
ANYWHO PLEASE COMMENT AND ENJOY!

Ah, I can tell that you're getting the hang of cell shading! Like I said before, I've never tried it myself, but it's still evident here.
Nice work!

holy shit, I didn't know such an intense scene was in Les mis, but I understand why they'd keep it out of the musical at least
but dang, so intense haha
