Well, it's a couple of things that make me think other wise. First of all, it's the name that the other God Hand members gave Griffith once he became one of them. They named him Femto. Do you know what a femto is? It's a prefix for units of measurement, like milli- or centi-. Specifically, a femtometer is a unit of length that is about 1x10^-9 the size of a meter; in other words, scientists would use femtometers to measure the length of bonds in molecules. That's REALLY small. And it caught me, why would you guys name your leader about something so small, and maybe......insignificant? That leads me to the second point.

You know how Griffith's demon form has that mask he was tortured in fused to his body and is actually his head now? Well, earlier in the series while the Band of the Hawk is saving Griffith, they are told a story about the first emperor of Midland. The story is that he was a great and cruel man who wore armor that looks like a SKELETON and that four "angels" sent by god defeated him. Hmmm.....who else do we know that has Skeleton based armor? Maybe it's that skeleton knight guy who was introduced only a few chapters before hand? But how can that be? The Skull Knight's armor is basically fused to his body, hell it IS his body.......just....like.....Griffith........

So he's the summary. I think that the Skull Knight was the ORIGINAL or ONE OF THE PAST leaders of the God Hand. He probably was a pretty cool, nice guy to humans whist still had done the sacrifice to become a God Hand member and had built a utopia that became Midland. BUT, the other god hand members also report to God itself, aka the flying windpipe called The Idea of Evil. The Idea of Evil was created by the human's will to be lead by a divine figure and was shaped by human's evil thoughts. Now if Skull Knight created a Utopia where everything is perfect (cough, cough, Falconia, couch...) there would be much less evil in the world. This, over time, would lead to the Idea of Evil ceasing to exist or changing into something completely different. I presume that it doesn't want to change. So what the Idea of Evil does is that he created the four god hand members to do his bidding, make a fifth member out of a human who would use that power to make a perfect kingdom. Now, when the kingdom has reached it's peak and people are so happy that there is little evil in the world............the Idea of Evil fucks it up. The other God Hand members betray their "leader", in this case Skull Knight, and destroy his kingdom. With the Utopia destroyed, people will start pointing fingers and then MORE WAR will break out, probably worse than before. This makes MORE EVIL and powers the Idea of Evil more than before.

That's why Skull Knight has a vendetta against the God Hand. He had specifically went after Void during the Eclipse, and since Void does the most talking and 'work' of the God Hand and also represents the aspect of selfishness "faith" (when led by God itself, I think this ranks a bit higher than Slan [lust], Ubik [Greed], or Conrad [Gluttony]), Void is the real leader of the God Hand. So it's going to be either Void or The Idea of Evil to be the final showdown.

Well, that's at least what I think.

Wow.. WOW! Okay, you've completely changed my mind. I really need to re-read all of the manga. I started reading it... 10 years ago? 15?? I've never gone back and read it through so a lot of the details are really vague in my memory.

This explanation makes absolute perfect sense, though! I'M SO EXCITED TO REREAD IT NOW THANK YOU!!
