Description
I intend to post some variations on original monoprints when I return from my short break. These are the orginals.MONOPRINTS
Most of the monoprints were originally made in the ‘70s and 80s.
Most were sold after an exhibition in a private gallery or given away as presents [as an assistantant teacher I was rather badly paid.]
The process was as follows:-
[1] The glass platen was inked up with printers’ ink
[2] The paper was placed carefully on the inked plate
[3] the design was drawn on the back of the paper – this would yield a ‘positive’ image e.g. image 1. If paper was placed and smoothed onto the platen immediately afterwards it would yield a negative image e.g. image 2
[4] When the ink was dry the picture was sprayed, using a mouth sprayer, with indian ink [red, yellow, green etc] to give a background colour.
[5] The process was completed using white ink for the highlights
NOTES
[a] Drawing has to be immediate – there is little room for hesitancy.
Pre-drawing is possible – but vitality of line is at risk.
[b] Printing paper is important – experimentation will yield surprising results. I used the ‘back’ of textured wallpaper to get interesting textures e.g. image 4.
[c] Household gloss paint [used as printing ink] can give unusual effects e.g. image 7 & 8.

Didn't mean to make you feel old Just a statement that few people seem to do that kind of thing anymore.

Very well done. I've never seen anything like this before in much detail. Could you lose the numbers?

The numbers are in because it's a kind of index sheet. I might refer to them in the future.

Awesome, thanks for this. A real insight into advanced monoprinting technique, just what I have been looking for.
I t was almost as if you read my mind.
The various effects produced are beautiful and distinct.
I am doing some printing tomorrow, may try and give some of these techniques a try. May even post something, if it is worth posting.
Thanks a lot.
