Description Here's the second project from this semester's painting class, which I've wanted to upload for some time now. This was my first painting using verdaccio (an earthy green underpainting) in combination with a lot of various colored glazes as opposed to straight wet-into-wet painting and, I must say, it went swimmingly. For a first attempt, I think it went well. I've done a lot of experimenting with this new painting method, so I have at least a little bit more command over it now. I've mostly been doing portraits and whatnot, so I did one of my Faust looking all pensive and scientific as a sister portrait to the first one I did of Mephisto: [link] (Though I kinda wanna redo it now... ) This one does look a lot better in person, but this is the best image I could get.... More Faust indeed~! XD Apparently, he's going to be cluttering up my gallery quite a bit for now.

Ah, he looks stunning as usual, my friend. Those luscious red lips look so delicious, and I like the curls in the hair on the left of the painting. You captured the expression well, too. That verdaccio is also a great background color for him. I think the glasses/jewelry really complete the picture, though. Matches his eye color, draws the viewer to his face, adds a touch of his personality, looks gorgeous on him...

Thank you so much~ I really am pleased with the way his face looks in this one. The new painting method made a world of difference.

Wow, this looks really good. Like the beads (on thumbnail they looked like tears and I was like "What? Did the demon distress him so much already?" ;P) Love his eyes, gorgeous colour... wish there was more of it, but I understand it doesn't really fit anywhere else, unless perhaps some jewels. :]

Why thank you~ Haha, maybe he's just bitter over being dominated by his own servant so easily. XD Probably feeling a little emasculated... I'm really fond of the copper-red hair/light blue eyes combination. I am trying to liven up my color palette bit by bit, since I mostly end up using lame, drab color schemes. XP

Way deeper in colors than your previous work, I'll say! Underpainting is definitely a great tool for bringing out contrast and dynamics.

Thanks, Kevin~ I can't believe the difference all the glazing and underpainting layers made. Now I'm actually able to incorporate greens and blues and other colors into the skin tones, which had me totally stymied before. XD
