The tutorial below is not obsolete, so I don't delete it, but you can find an updated version here: How To Convert Any Genesis Characters Into G8

We will start with G3 characters which are the easiest to convert. The basics are the same for Genesis 1 and 2, but with some additional steps.

I use here a female character but it'll work the same with males and I even think you might, with this technique, convert a male character into a female and invertely (I haven't tried though). I'll try to be as precise as possible to make it accessible even to beginners. Because of that it might look intimidating, but it's actually very simple and once you'll have done it once or twice it won't take more than few minutes for you to do it.

On the pictures I have no textures to not be bothered by a potential "nipples problem".

So let's start.

First open the Genesis 3 character you want to convert (it can be, of course, a character you made of your own), here I am using Ceridwen.

Place your character into G8 basic pose. It's very simple, all you need to do is to bend the arms at 45 and put the thighs at 6 on the side. (You can even save the pose, it will gain time if you do several conversion)

Ceridwen is shorter than the basic Genesis 8, it can be problematic later, so I simply load G8 and try to match the size of Ceridwen using the "Height" parameter in "Actor/Full Body". What I try to match is actually the eyes.

Once it's done, if you had to load a G8 to match the sizes, supress it (it's simpler) and put the SubD "Resolution Level" of your character G3 to "Base" (it's very important), then export it has an OBJ. If the OBJ has the same name than the original morph it will create some kind of conflict later and the conversion might not work. Here I simply called it "Ceridwen-G8", it's enough.

First part is done.

The next step can be tedious, so to not have to do it for each characters you want to transfer, I advise you to do the first step for all the one you want to update before doing the next part.

Now open a new G3 and a G8 basic character. Select G3 and fit it to G8.

In the first dialogue box, uncheck "Parent to Target". (it's not necessary to do that, it's just make things easier)

In the next dialogue tab, under "What figure was the item originally designed for?" put "Genesis 3 Female", let the second to "None" and click on "Accept".

This will take some time to fit. For me it's between 10 and 15 minutes and for some reasons, it demand a lot of memory from the computer (I have 16Go of ram and it's barely enough). So if you do something on the side, be carefull it does not take to much memory or it will make Daz crash (at least it has happened to me). To let you know, this process is a lot shorter for the previous Genesis versions, generally only few seconds.

Once it's done, Daz might be a little slow, but it will work normally if you wait few minutes more.

The result should look like this.

So, once this step is done, unfit G3 from G8.

Select G8, right click on the "Scene" tab, then go to "Edit", click on "Scene Identification". Change the "Preferred Base" to "Genesis 3 Female" then "Accept".

Now fit G8 to G3 (no picture here, it's the same process than before) and good news, it should be done instantaneously. No waiting.

Select G3 and once again right click on the "Scene" tab. Go to "Assets" and select "Morph Loader Pro". Charge your previously made OBJ (if you have several you can load them all). By right clicking on "Morphs/Morph Loader", next to "Property Group", you can chose were you want the morph to be loaded. For this I let it in the default "Morphs/Morph Loader" (you can also change it later if you want) then click "Accept".

Put your newly added morph at 100%. It's important to do that, because otherwise the morph won't be tranfered to Genesis 8.

Unfit and hide or even suppress G3, if you have loaded all the morphs you wanted.

Select G8 and test your morph. It should work perfectly.

You see? Worked Perfectly. ^^

But we haven't finish yet.

First we will check her teeth. Depending of the model it will convert well or not. Don't know why.

For checking the teeth, I simply put a smiling expression. Like you can see, they haven't converted well. So now we want to make it back to the original G8 basic teeth and the fact I matched the sizes at the begining will allow to do that easily.

Her upper teeth shouldn't bend like that

Put your morph in favorite by clicking on the heart on the morphing bar.

Then go to "Tool Setting" and open the "Geometry Editor". Put your selection type on "Vertex".

Right click inside the "Viewport" and go on "Geometry Selection", then "Select By", "Surfaces" and click on "Mouth". Do the same thing again but at the end select "Teeth". You should now have all the inside mouth selected.

Once again right click, but this time go to "Morph Editing" and click on "Clear Selected Deltas From Favorites".

What I did here, was to suppress Ceridwen's morph from these selected vertices. So her inside mouth and teeth are now the same than the basic G8.

If the teeth have moved too much, select the "Upper Teeth" and "Lower Teeth" and move them to match their precedent placement.

Once it's done, put the expression to 0 and let's go for the final step. ^^

Go to "Tool Settings" and open the "Joint Editor".

Then right click in the "Viewport", go to "Edit", then click on "Adjust Rigging To Shape". In the pop-up window simply click to "Accept".

You should have seen that the "bones" have adjust to the character.
You don't have to do this, but if you put the morph to 0%, you'll see that the "bones" won't come back to their original G8 position.

To fix that (if you did the test above, don't forget to put back your morph at 100%, it's very important), in the "Parameters" tab, activate the "Edit Mode" by right clicking in it and selecting it. Then, do a right click on your new morph and select "ERC Freeze"

Simply click on "Accept". Deactivate the "Edit Mode" and if you come back to 0%, everything should follow correctly.

This window is intimidating, but if you haven't touch anything else than what I told you, it won't screw anything.

The only thing you have to do now is to save the morph.

Go to "File", "Save As", "Support Asset" and "Morph Asset(s)...".

In the window that has opened in "Vendor Name" and "Product Name", I personally put "Converted" and "G3", to find it easily if I have to later, but you can let at it is if you want.

All you need to do now, is where to find your new morph. Here it is in, like said precedently in "Morphs", "Morph Loader".

So, expend "Genesis 8", then "Morphs", "Morph Loader", check Ceridwen and click on "Accept".

And we are done.

Though, to be sure it worked, open a new G8, find the new morph you've created and test it.

Don't forget that Genesis 3 textures are, for the most part, compatible with Genesis 8.

As a conclusion I will add that, like I said at the beginning, converting Genesis 1 and 2 demands few more steps, though I gave here all the keys for you to theoretically be able to find your way by your own.

But because these additional  steps can be tricky, I might do anyway another tutorial, but not right away.

I'll do probably also one to show how to convert V4 and M4 characters into G8. Again, it's on the same principle, but with even more steps.

Anyway, I hope it will be helpful for you and if by chance you know even more effective ways to convert characters, don't hesitate to share.

You are welcome and it's my pleasure to share. ^^

It's really not that complicated or even laborious. I think that all the pictures make it more impressive that it really is.

If you have questions, though, don't hesitate to ask.

For the M4/V4, I'll probably do it in 2 parts.

The first will be very important, but once it's done once and saved, no need to do it again.

I say that but I haven't started to work on it yet.
