Nice version of the brothers, and monochromatic as seems suitable for their nature. The text makes both of them rather serious fellows, always intent on avenging their mother's torment and leaving of Middle-Earth. True companions, lifesavers in the wilds, but not much fun at parties.

I've read a lot of fanfics where they are really funny too.

Well, I suppose when the mood was upon them the twin brothers could be fun at parties. I suppose when they were young an age ago before the events of LOTR they could have had lots of fun. Soomehow that seems to go along with twins.

Well, yeah. I don't really know why people think that they are fun just because they are twins. Maybe it has something to do with Fred and George from Harry Potter 
But you're right in that they are portrayed as very serious and rather grim in the books. However I prefer the fanfics where they have both humor and can be serious when needs be
