Watching the death-berries take effect, watching the medicine cat's life come to an end, Laurelsprout stayed quite still, watching it all happen without a shred of regret. Orchidfrost passed on in the gloom of the night. Laurelsprout settled into their nest once more and waited for morning.
When the light poured into the medicine den, they went to their mentor again. He was gone, most certainly so. Laurelsprout sat beside him, shaking him. screaming, crocodile tears down their cheeks as they put on a sorrowful show for their clan.
Orchidfrost was dead, leaving them; the young, pitiable, Laurelsprout as Hailclan's only medicine cat.
