My characters are human and I roleplay with them as humans. They have human and canine forms simply because I've started roleplaying in canine RPGs and thus am used to design and especially draw canine characters better than humans. He cannot transform between these two forms.

Traitor. Backstabber. Lord of Scoundrels.

Physical features:

Muscular body. Has a beard of a lighter color than his hair (almost blonde). His back is whipped so the great amount of scars on back has deformed its skin.
Uses leather armor (design of it is not defined) and a black coat of middle length. The armor on Varlam's arms include half gloves which also have four iron rivets on knuckles (for dem bloody punches ).

History & Personality:

After leaving the Grey Culmen clan as its traitor Varlam made a living as a mercenary for over 20 years, hiding from the people of said clan. Eventually he returned back north, settling to a clan near Grey Culmen, clan of Middle Forest. There he ends up organizing a mutiny and then holding the title of Commander of the clan himself. So a traitor and a mutiny leader. Backstabber.
He is cunning, proud, confident and arrogant. More or less of an asshole in other words.
As a gambler Varlam sometimes tends to take risks to achieve a greater goal or victory. ”All or nothing.”
Honorable or trustworthy are not his strongest traits. He lies and makes people deals which he can easily break when he’s gained his share of the deal. So yeah, inglorious and shameless he is.

Cares about his friends very much and is aware of his responsibilities of keeping the clan safe.
Doesn’t talk about his concerns much, nor does he let them make him feel down too easily. Misfortunes build his character and willpower. He always tries to make the best of the cards he's been dealt.

History (long version):

Born in the Iron Village located in the northern area, Grey Culmen. Varlam Starikovich was the first-born of Karina Starikovich and the third child of her husband, Gerasim Starikovich. While having the signature gray-colored eyes of the Starikovich family, Varlam is different from his dark-haired family members with his middle-brown hair (and even more with blonde beard as a grown man). One of those things he inherits from his mother.
With his older half-brother, Robbe, Varlam never had a traditional siblingly relationship. Since Robbe is not Karina’s son, she’s had her difficulties with accepting him, and Varlam reflected his mother’s treatment towards Robbe since young age. Sure, he called him his brother, as well as regularly reminding Robbe how he isn’t fully part of the family.
So the brother he biologically had wasn’t quite that for him mentally. That role was carried by the first-born son of the Lord Commander of Grey Culmen and the future Commander-in-chief. Karp Lagunov. Varlam was born in the same year as him and the two became friends as soon as they properly met. And as children they were inseparable. The boys did everything together; they played and learned, was taught to fight and got into trouble together. They grew together. Karp remains as the most important person in Varlam’s early life.

Varlam had a good home, distinguished family and great friends. Even though he wasn’t an easy child or all good in nature, he had everything. In his teens Varlam also made the Soldiers’ vow, which bonded him to Grey Culmen for life. It was obvious that Varlam’s future in there was bright. He would earn glory and be one of the supporting pillars of the clan by being Karp’s right hand when he would be ready to take the place as the Lord Commander. Karp and Varlam would do great deeds together. Make history.
Until came the day when he shattered all that himself. Varlam ended up once saving his own skin – by offering Karp and his little brother to the enemy instead. It was snowing calmly as Varlam gave his last gaze to Karp.
Having then earned the reputation of a traitor, Varlam fled.

It wasn’t until reaching the most southern part of the country with full of unknown people to blend in before he stopped running. After suddenly losing absolutely everything in his life Varlam found a place in Portsmoor, the capital city of Holmsland. He was soon recruited in a group of mercenaries where he could make his living and keep developing his fighting skills. By the years Varlam truly grew to be quite a skillful fighter. Maybe not a fair one but his skin remained unscarred even after countless of battles.
The life he had in South wasn’t all that bad. But after growing up dreaming of an honorable life as a deeply respected and distinguished person, the life of a hired mercenary wasn’t enough for him after all.
His ambitiousness, as well as his nature as a Northern man, made him move again. After 20 years of hiding Varlam dared to return to the North.
It of course wasn’t Grey Culmen he went to, but a little neighboring village. At his middle 30’s Varlam settled there planning his next move while keeping a low profile. He already knew the situation in Middle Village; how it had failed to keep the pace of growing alongside other areas and was rather getting smaller because of a lousy commander. After learning more about it and making a few friends, Varlam decided what he should do. He will earn prestige not as a right-hand-man of someone but as a leading Commander of a clan himself. To achieve this goal Varlam has been planning a mutiny in Middle Village and gathering people to support him for a little while now. During it all Varlam met Yurika Kunihide, a ninja assassin, who became one of his most trusted and needed friends. He was also aware of his growing affection towards her.
While Varlam managed to keep a low profile and stayed hidden for many years, it all came to an end after unfortunate events. After getting too close to his former home, Varlam was finally found and caught by Grey Culmenians. He was imprisoned, physically punished and even given a death penalty for his old crimes.
That wasn’t what Karp wanted, though. The childhood best friend, later Backstabber, having a final resting place in their lands where his home wasn’t anymore and without Karp getting a proper chance of settling it with Varlam personally. That was something Karp could not accept as an ending to their story, and after Yurika’s failed attempt at saving Varlam, Karp and Yurika broke him out together. Thus, he was saved.
Varlam was humiliated, beat, scarred and, for a short time, reduced from his cocky nature, and he fled once again. But he lived.
Nevertheless, his spirit could not be tamed for long.
