Male mages have weird outfits and Link, one of the most famous swordsmen in videogames, wears a skirt, so I guess that explains it :V

I may take you up on that offer at some point as I agree this feels like the penultimate panel before seeing her actually realizing the extent of her changes. Still very nice storyline and great drawing so thank you both.

Summoners are my favorite class in any Final Fantasy that isn't online... but in the MMO's they're sadly very underwhelming. Whitemage is my favorite class in FFXIV, Redmage in FFXI, and Summoner in any other Final Fantasy with jobs. I wish they'd do a thing like they did with BLMs and Meteor in FFXI and let a group of summoners work together to summon a major avatar and keep them summoned. Or... as an alternative... It'd make me so happy if you could summon Bahamut and have him show up, drop Mega Flare, and disappear like Odin does.
They could make it fit the game fairly easily... The first summoner would have to use astral flow and start casting, then at least 2 others would have to contribute for it to even work, and at that strength it wouldn't be significantly stronger than any other avatars' Astral Flow Blood Pact. To get the full power you'd need 5 summoners, just like the 5 blms for max strength Meteor. That would make it where you could have 6 casts of a game changing spell by having 6 summoners as one of the parties in an alliance and rotating astral flows.
I doubt Squenix would ever allow it, though. It'd be useless in anything but maybe campaign or Abyssea, but it'd be fun as hell to pull off at full strength. At the very least it would be freaking epic for a mana burn party. ^_^ Have someone kite in a few difficult enemies while the others are casting the spell, then bring them all in range just as Bahamut drops the bomb.

5 Black Mages? Who's gonna heal the tank and keep him alive while they do this? A party that doesn't have both a tank and a healer has to work FAST because whoever has the enemy's attention is going to go down in a hurry.

Alyssasidhe In reply to SailorDolly [2014-06-10 08:44:14 +0000 UTC]
That's part of the concept of a mana burn party. There is no tank. The healer is just to heal the person who gets hit at all between battles so they start at full health and to keep everyone alive during the battle. One person goes and pulls a mob, the WHM makes sure to have everyone as protected as possible and put regen on them, then the BLMs all dump their most powerful spells on the mob as soon as it gets close. Back before pages were introduced and with the right mobs this was extremely effective.
Another way I partied without the normal structure was as a redmage with a whitemage, a blackmage, and three thieves. I backup healed and attacked with my sword. The black mage just dumped as many nukes as possible. The whitemage made sure everyone was at full health as normal. The three thieves took turns using sneak attack on each mob. The mobs might get in two hits before they died most times, as three sneak attacks in the row while being nuked by a black mage was a ridiculous amount of damage.
These parties are high risk, but also extremely fast at taking down enemies... the only problem is the cooldown time, but because so much damage is put out, you could actually kill slightly above level mobs and get a lot of experience for each one, so they were very fun parties nonetheless.

Hmm and here I always thought that Black Mages in FFXI (which I played) were so low on Defense that if they kept aggro they would get K.O.'d faster than a healer could keep up.

Alyssasidhe In reply to SailorDolly [2014-06-11 05:44:17 +0000 UTC]
They would. That's why in a mana burn you picked enemies that you could kill almost instantly. A high risk party, but with good players you could get one nuke off before the enemy got to the party and get the second one when the enemy got close enough to melee. With five black mages all casting at level spells, that would usually kill the enemy.
And with the other party set up, you have on thief sneak attack, the enemy turns and faces them. The next thief is standing opposite the first thief, and they immediately use sneak attack and the enemy turns to face them. Finally, the third thief is standing right with the first thief... so he they use sneak attack. That's three heavy criticals in a row. All the while a BLM is nuking them, a rdm is using their sword on them and a whm is desperately trying not to let anyone die. The enemy usually doesn't last that long... but when they do if the players rotate enmity enough in this party they CAN survive a bit of combat. With a mana burn party there isn't that extra wiggle room, but you also don't have to wait five minutes for the thieves to be able to use sneak attack again.

Seriously, when a Black Mage would be the focus of aggro while I was partying, I would see 1/4 to 1/3 of their hit points evaporate with every normal attack--and these attacks recur faster than the casting time of any healing spell above Cure III.

Yeah, but again it's not as spectacular as the summons from FFIII, FFV, FFVII, or FFX. The summons are copies of the avatars, not the avatars themselves... It's really not a lot different from playing a Warlock in World of Warcraft.
