SO yeah, still trying to work on doing pin ups, and I still feel pretty fail it with, but I will just keep trying.I posted this yesterday and a group I submitted it to made fun of it, so I immediately deleted it off my profile⦠but not going to let it get to me too much, so I am re posting it. Please be nice ?

AS somone who draws a lot of pinups, I'd have to say this is a pretty awesome gothic/dark pinup. Anyone making fun of you for this needs to get a life.

As many people have already said it here - I cannot understand why someone made fun of your pin-up pictures. I love them, I love these cold eyes and endless legs!
But I believe that we should think about "pin-up" concept in much more wide sense when it deals with time frame - not to be limited with 40s-50s. Yes, pin-up appeared those decades, but what was it? Pictures to tease, simply to say

Thanks so much for the kind words ! I have always viewed a "pin-up" as a sexualized or slightly sexualized image of a women, dark , light, vampire or airplane betty. But that is from my point of view as a fan of artwork, I had no idea the area was so evangelical in its view point. But from an artist point of view I am lost HA !

I can understand the goal you have in mind. I think the most difficult problem is the stereotype. Pin up equals one or more of the following naive, vapid, naughty, etc.
Your styling presents, to me, characters unreadable, possibly malicious or cold (all of these my interpretations of course), making the sense or feeling of the standard pin up, troublesome to evoke.
Could it be in the eyes primarily and secondly the mouth? Again, just my impressions.

An incredible image..love the contrast with what you achieved and the idea of a "pin-up". I know what you mean about pinups being hard to do! Gave up trying in the end. Excellent work and as always a beautifully rendered image!

Unbelievable, people made fun of this? Giving a thoughtful critique is one thing, being a douchebag is another. Unfortunately, most people offering up that kind of drivel on the internet don't know the difference, and what's worse, they often think they're being the world's best help to artists.
You did the right thing to repost; this is great work. I like this piece a lot, and the other one too... definitely my kind of pinups.

Dunno why anyone would make fun of that - it's beautiful
"Pin-up" as far as i can tell (tried it myself) needs a short story, a dorky one at that, to it as well as a sexy babe. And maybe this composition doesn't quite carry a narrative?

I like it. It's more fetish/goth than classic pin up. When i hear pin up i think of WWII and Betty Grable painted on an airplane. For me, that's boring. this is not. I love the patented? leather and the rubber look. the whole wicked goth dark look is sweet. it's unique and it fits your style.

it's definitely not a pin-up in the traditional sense, at least in my opinion, but that's not really a bad thing either. it has much more of a gothic look which is something that your style definitely lends itself to. can't believe someone made fun of this, not only do they have no taste, but the whole point of sharing your work here is so that others can help you grow as an artist. nice work.
