I appreciate your critique on this pic.
I agreed with most to all of this. The only thing I wanted to comment on is the "shading and lighting comes off a bit muddy and/or blotchy". I was going for a canvas look to it, so that kinda made the "more fine blending" convert into this muddy version. I am usually more toward a blended version of highlights but I wanted to try something new. And from your critique it apparently payed off.

On that note check this out. It is in a way similar to, but a few years ahead of yours [link] . I wish I knew then what I do know. My grass sucked! You learn as you go what works and what doesn't...

I want to open up by saying this is probably one of your best work. The coloring is excellent, as is the shading. A complicated and interesting pose, yet can be recognized immediately.
The grass is also amazing, great color and shading, excellent actually. Perhaps the best I have ever seen. I love the way the colors shift from green to yellow then back again.
The way you bring the sky to life really makes the whole picture pop. My eyes keep trying to think it's photography. XD!
Something else I want to point out is his shoes and gloves. First off amazing. Great size on the both of them, the shading is particularly interesting on the shoes. It really makes them look like 3D creations. And as the person sitting next to me pointed out, they're shiny. XD!
The gloves have those golden rings on them. Also shiny I might add (LOLXD) but the pure design of them is simply amazing. They really contribute something to the picture. I also think you may have solved the worldwide mystery, where does Sonic put his rings when he grabs them?
On top of that, the way yo drew his arm, pouring out of his shoulder and gently flowing to rest on his knee, you have done an excellent job making it look realistic.
Normally I would try to point out some kind of a mistake in a critique, but I honestly can't find one. I guess the tail is unshaded.....? e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="
Overall an excellent picture, and it has certainly given my day a good jumpstart. So thank you.
One more thing, I would have given you five stars all the way across, but it is a Sonic picture, and you didn't really come up with Sonic originally, but I still gave you a 4.5 because, honestly, this is the most original and unique Sonic picture I have ever seen, and certainly one of the best.
