Letters?

The two friends continued exchanging letters for some time. One day, a few months later, Kirri got a shock. No letters came. She re-wrote her letter, and sent it off again. She waited. Nothing. Why were the letters not arriving? She didn't know. However many miles away, Nick had the same dilemma. No letters. He sent them, but nothing returned. What was happening? Neither of them knew. Each accepted the fact that their correspondent just wasn't interested anymore.
