Description
This is my contest entry to the Kubo contest! Theme was to draw Kubo overcoming a challenge so what I drew was him overcoming his parents death.

My interpretation and thoughts based off the movie:

I imagine the lute that Kubo carries around holds a deep meaning to him since it was from his mother. My artwork is set between his fight with the moon king. Being pretty young and facing such a powerful opponent as well as suffering the lost of two parents would definitely have a toll on Kubo. When he continuously keeps getting beaten by the moon king, at some point Kubo would've lost a sense of hope. But the strings given from his parents and the special lute helps him realize that his parents will still be by his side; just in another form. And to give Kubo the extra boost of help, their spirits are there; guiding Kubo to take the lute once more to protect the village.
