Portrait of MiG 3 flown by A.V.Shlopov. Moscow air defense, Winter 1941-1942. Note the popular 'Za Stalina!' (For Stalin!) legend.This piece was created in Illustrator CS and is entirely vector.
The shading was rendered using the blend tool between different vector shapes, and a some use of the gradient and transparency tools.
