I've been listening to Soul On Fire by Mystery Skulls on repeat for the past three hours. yes. i'm pretty sure the hours will continue to rise as I type this part of the story. some people, like my mom, can't read/write anything while listening to music... but i can. i guess i'm the only person in my family who can :0
anyway, back on track XD new and, hopefully last, character is drawn above. he will be introduced later in the story, and also (like i promised) things will kick off now. shits about to go down
As I followed Lynx through the dense forest, he seemed much more lively. It almost looked like he was bobbing his head to music as he walked. I was glad to see him happy.
Phenom was walking beside me. The trail that we were on was very slim, I didn't want to step on him, so I had to walk over to the side instead of the center of the trail. That caused me to get pricked and scratched by thorns the whole time we traveled. I looked down at Phenom to see him wagging his tail in time with his step, like everything had to be timed perfectly. I walked like I normally would, one foot in front of the other making sure to step over small creatures that crossed the path. No matter how hard I listened, the forest was silent. I looked at the trees, there were brightly colored birds and small mammals hopping around, but they didn't make any noise. I wondered how hard it was for predators to find their prey. As I was walking and looking up at the trees, I accidentaly ran into something. I switched my attention to what I ran in to. Turns out I accidentaly kicked Phenom, who was now walking in front of me. He didn't bother to turn around and scold me, he just continued walking.
"Wait." Lynx's voice made me jump. No more silence.
"What transpired?" Phenom asked as he weaved around Lynx to get to the front of the line.
"Puddles." He responded quietly.
I peered over his shoulder and sure enough, there was a trail of puddles through the forest. "Why're they lined up like that?"
"Because they're tracks." Lynx said as he scanned the area. "We're getting closer. This way."
He stepped over Phenom and continued leading us through the forest. Phenom found his place beside me as we escaped the thick bushes and stood in a clearing. Lynx looked around, then at the ground, he began walking again and kept his head angled downwards to follow the tracks. Phenom and I followed close behind him.
After what felt like an eternity of walking, we came to a large cluster of bushes with white flowers standing out on the green leaves.
"I bet Line's flower is in that cluster of bushes." Lynx said as he studied a few of the flowers.
"She might be testing us, our patience." I shrugged. "It wouldn't hurt to check, anyway."
Phenom walked up to the bush and started sniffing each flower. Lynx just circled the bushes and peered at them closely. I studied each and every flower, looking for the blue ribbon that was said to be around the fake flower.
We searched for about thirty minutes before I found something interesting. "Hey guys, look what I found." I called.
The two appeared by my side and I showed them what it was. It was a large leaf with some white goo on it.
Lynx picked up the leaf and studied it closely, "This can't be good. It's not anything I've ever seen before."
Phenom must've lost interest because he walked over to a bush next to me and picked something up with his mouth. He trotted over to me and held it up. I took it out of his mouth and wiped off some of the saliva before I took a good look at it. I smiled as I realized what it was. It was the fake flower. It was white with a green stem and had the blue ribbon around it. I read the words printed in gold on it 'Forever a Baker.' I took the phone Line gave me out of my pocket and pressed the button to turn it on. The screen turned blue, then orange and the flower disappeared in my hand.
A voice erupted from the phone that caused me to jump. "Holy sshhh- yay. You got the flower, danke (thank you)." I recognized the voice momentarily, it was Line.
"Yeah, Phenom found it. You should thank him." I replied.
"Give him pets, from me."
I looked down at Phenom, he shook his head. "Okay, I will." I lied.
Line chuckled, "No you won't. Anyway, I guess I have to explain what the point of this phone is."
Lynx spoke, I almost forgot he was there. "That would be nice."
"Very nice indeed. This phone will service as a normal phone would. You can call anyone you want, as long as you know their name. See the microphone-shaped button on the bottom of the phone?"
I scanned the phone for the button, and there it was. It was glowing orange. "Yep, I see it."
"Okay. You just press that button and say the person's name that you want to call. Try to call me." There was a 'ding' and then silence. I figured whenever that noise played, it meant the call ended.
I pressed the button and the words 'Who do you want to call?' appeared on the screen. "Line." I said loud and clear.
There was a second of silence, then Line's voice erupted from the phone. "No, no. I know what time it is just- Oh! I didn't expect it to work that fast. Good job you can press a button and say my name. Now that you know how the phone works, I'll leave you with three pieces of advice."
I nodded, then remembered she couldn't see me. "Okay."
"First, you can call any person who's name you know, like I said before, even if they don't have a phone with them. Your voice will just appear in their head. Second, I am probably the most useful person you can call. If you get stuck or are dying, even dead, call me and I may help to the best of my abilites. If you're dead, just have the phone on you and I will be called as soon as you die. Third, pay attention to that leaf with the white stuff on it."
"So, you're our savior?" Lynx asked.
"I'm the only person with that power, so yes. But I can't always help you. Even I don't know where things are going sometimes. Now, I must be off. I have things to do." Line's voice disappeared and the 'ding' marked that she was gone.
I stuffed the phone in my pocket, "Okay, so we can call anybody we want. Seems worth it."
Lynx still had the leaf in his hand. "She said to pay attention to this leaf. We should bring it with us."
"You're carrying it." I said quickly. "Besides the leaf, what're we going to do next?"
"We should accompany those tracks once again. Look, they seem to become more like slush than water." Phenom said with a flick of his tail.
I looked at the tracks, he was right. "So, as we get closer to the maker of those tracks, they will freeze more. Than we have to be close."
Lynx stuffed the leaf in a pocket on his sash and continued following the tracks. Phenom bound towards him until he was in front, I walked beside Lynx.
We continued on our way in silence for at least two hours before we found something that interested us. It was a bear trap made of ice, it was melting slowly. We studied it for a short amount of time and saw more white goo stuck on it. Phenom deemed it as some sort of blood because of the smell, but I smelled nothing.
Lynx convinced us to keep going. So we did. We followed the tracks for an hour until they were made of fresh snow. Lynx led us into a thick bush and said he saw Prince Dexis standing in a clearing ahead. We crouched down and made our way closer. And closer. We kept on moving until we were just a few feet away from him. He was wearing his usual clothes, but had a blue quiver on his back full of arrows made out of ice. He also had a huge ebony bow in his hands. He pulled back the string as far as he could, then let go. I failed to notice the ice arrow that was nocked in it. I watched it fly through the air and hit something that made a groaning noise.
"Are we just going to watch him?" I asked in the quietest whisper I'd ever managed.
"I don't know..." Lynx replied. "Can't you call Line and ask?"
I pulled out the phone and pressed the orange button. "Line." I whispered.
There was a long moment of silence before a loud bark followed by the hissing of a cat. I freaked out and quickly pressed every button on the phone before it hung up.
I peered out of the bush and saw that Prince Dexis was looking in our direction with the most unreadable expression I've ever seen. I realized I was shaking and that Lynx was gearing up to leap out of the bushes. I grabbed his arm and screamed in a whisper, "You can't go out there! You'll get killed!"
He looked at me with a weird expression. It was like a mixture of happy, worry, and anger. "I won't die, princess. Besides, we won't know if this is the right thing to do until we try it." He looked at Phenom.
The old coyote sighed, "This is your conjecture, comrade. If you lose a limb or your head, don't come lamenting to me. I'll probably be in the same state."
Lynx sighed, then leapt through the bushes, completely escaping my grasp. I gasped and watched beside Phenom.
The Winter Prince wasn't surprised at all. "I see." His voice was smooth and had no emotion whatsoever.
"Yeah, nice to see you too, Roxten." Lynx said quickly.
"Mr. Priceworth, fancy meeting you here." He said with a thick layer of distaste.
I looked over at Phenom, who looked like he was going to fall asleep. "Roxten? Priceworth?"
"Those are the Prince's last names. Only they can refer to each other utilizing those names. You are fortuitous nobody, besides me, heard you assert that." He replied blandly.
I nodded and looked back at the two Princes. Prince Dexis was now staring directly at me, I don't know how it was possible he could see me through the bush.
"Company, Mr. Priceworth? How like you to befriend a human." Prince Dexis stated.
"Is there a problem with that? At least I have friends." Lynx said loudly.
Prince Dexis didn't take his eyes off of me. "Hm. So, how's your castle coming along? I heard nobody has moved in yet." The Winter Prince couldn't sound more uninterested if he tried. He circled around Lynx a few times, studying every inch of him.
"It's livable. Is your castle melting yet?" Lynx stood still the whole time.
Prince Dexis rolled his blue eyes and then stopped in front of Lynx. "You're running out of things to say. You came here for a reason, why not get it over with?" The bow in his hands melted into a spear that glowed blue.
Lynx shrugged, "Sounds like a good idea."
The Summer Prince did it all in one big movement. He raised his hand in the air and a giant patch of thorns rose from the ground in a second. At the same time, something that looked like a pistol made out of vines grew in his hand. He shot at Prince Dexis about seven or eight times.
If I had to describe the way Prince Dexis fought, in one word I would say: graceful. This man is the exact definition of graceful. He leapt up in the air as soon as the thorns shot up at him, did a flip, and landed on the ground safely. While Lynx was shooting the bullets, he deflected them all with his spear like it required zero effort. Once all the shots were fired, he disappeared into thin air. Nothing was left of him but two snowy footprints. Suddenly there were seven of him, each one looked exactly the same.
Lynx stared for a moment and then grinned. He pulled a dagger out of nowhere and charged at the first Prince Dexis. They clashed and struggled for a few seconds before Lynx cut his stomach. I was expecting intestines to spill out everywhere, but the whole Prince disappeared and a snowflake fluttered to the ground. Lynx sighed and then attacked the next one. And the next. And the next until three of them left. Phenom leapt out of the bushes and started helping Lynx.
I watched in horror as I waited for the real Prince Dexis to suddenly appear and kill one of them by surprise. As I watched, something cold grabbed me by my arm and picked me up to my feet. I would've screamed my ass off, but a hand clapped over my mouth and silenced every noise that I made. I looked up to see, guess who? Prince Dexis. His cold blue eyes stared at my green eyes for a long second before he pulled me away into the woods, leaving a trail of snow footprints behind him.
After we were a long distance away from Lynx and Phenom, he uncovered my mouth. I remained silent so he wouldn't kill me on the spot. "You won't say a word unless adressed by me. Got it?" He hissed.
I swallowed hard and nodded frantically.
He gave a small nod, "Now, why did you just happen to run into me here? What's your purpose?"
"We w-were told to go t-to Matruel and find y-you." I said in a small voice.
His pupils turned to slits as he looked away from me for just a second. "Of course." He sighed, "Who told you to come here?"
"L-Line in Th-The House O-Of Incompletes..." I was shaking, for two reasons. Prince Dexis was terrifying and the air around us was freezing cold.
He grunted, "Excuse me while I deal with two prisoners of mine."
I opened my mouth to say something but was unable to. I looked down at my feet and saw thick ice encasing me and immobilizing me. The ice continued to form up my body until it got to my neck. I looked up from myself and saw that Prince Dexis had disappeared. I struggled to escape, throwing myself around and trying to wiggle, but nothing worked. I eventually gave up and waited for Prince Dexis to return.
After about fifteen minutes, I heard the sound of ice clanking together. My ice prison suddenly shattered, leaving me with cuts and slices from jagged ice all over my body. I would've stretched my legs, but there were ice shackles and ice handcuffs keeping me from moving as freely as I'd like too. Prince Dexis walked in front of me and then nodded, satisfied with himself.
"What? You're proud that you caught a human girl?" I was completely surprised when my voice didn't crack and I didn't stutter.
"Not quite, princess." I heard a familiar voice sigh behind me.
I turned and saw Prince Lynx standing there, covered in blood and completely defeated. He had shackles and handcuffs on too. Next to him stood Phenom in his anthro form, also wearing shackles and handcuffs.
I looked back at Prince Dexis who now had no expression. "You're evil." I spat.
He glared at me and I instantly regretted saying that. "You'd better control yourself in the future. The Fey will eat you alive if you continue to act like... that." The air grew colder and I could tell Prince Dexis was pissed with me.
Without saying another word, he turned and began walking through the forest. I didn't move.
"You have to follow him, princess." Lynx whispered behind me.
Hell no. I screamed in my mind. But I forced myself to follow the Winter Prince.
We walked in terrifying silence for hours and hours without any sort of pitstop. The forest began to thin and seemed to be dying as we walked. I gazed at the tall and withered trees.
They look burnt... The landscape started to depress me. Grey and black ashes were strewn across the ground and trees that looked like charcoal rose up higher than I could see.
I felt like something was watching me. I turned to a pile of sticks and saw five- no- six red eyes glowing brightly. Their pupils weren't aimed at me, rather at Prince Dexis. The six pupils shifted to me, I pointed at Prince Dexis and the eyes moved up and down, like the creature was nodding. Five of the six eyes closed, leaving on large bright eye staring at the Winter Prince.
Lynx was behind me, and I could tell he was watching me very closely. I watched the creature walk beside us, undetected, and keep its eye on its target. We walked for a few more feet before a streak of grey flew across the path, heading directly towards the Prince. He seemed to know it was coming, and caught the creature in the air with his spear. They wrestled with eachother and I could've sworn I heard the hissing of a snake.
I heard the clanking of ice and watched as Lynx and Phenom ran into the woods. I sprinted after them, but the chains on the shackles were short, causing me to trip and fall. Lynx appeared and lifted me up to me feet. He ran beside me as we followed Phenom deeper into the burnt forest. We stopped in our tracks when we heard a strange howl mixed with a yip of agony. I looked around frantically and saw the same streak of grey speed through the forest. I don't know what Lynx or Phenom did, but I followed the creature and ran as fast as I could. I heard sharp breaths and saw Phenom running beside me. On my other side came Lynx, running with extreme speed.
The creature stopped, whirled around, and lashed out at us. I screamed, as usual, and the creature jumped.
"Holy hell!" It barked.
The creature finally stood still and I could get a good look at it. It had only one red eye open, the other eye was covered with an eyepatch. Black fangs stuck awkwardly out of its mouth. Its black ears were held together by a pin in the shape of an upside down cross. Its fur was grey and it had black spots on its back, its toes were black. I gasped as I noticed that its front right leg was missing, replaced with a stump with an 'X' on it. There was white goo leaking from it. Same with its tail, it was replaced with a stump and an 'X'. I noticed it was panting, a pink forked tongue stuck out from its mouth. The white stuff we found on the leaf and bear trap must've been this creature's blood... Line wanted us to remember the blood so we could identify it. I said in my mind.
Nobody said anything as we heard quiet footsteps erupting in the silence. The creature barked and ran in the opposite direction of the footsteps. We followed to the best of our ability.
After running and running, we finally stopped and listened. No footsteps. No noises except for out fast breaths.
The creature looked at us, "Determined... Follow me, I can bring you somewhere... safe..." It panted and seemed tired, but trekked on anyway.
I forced myself to follow it, even though every part of my body screamed in protest.
The walk was only a few minutes before we came upon a small campsite with two tents that blended into the environment so well that I could barely see it. There was a small red flame burning in the middle of the clearing. The creature led us over to it.
"You can try to melt your handcuffs and shackles over the fire." It said as it laid down extremely close to the fire.
I held my hands over the fire and kept me feet close to it. I looked at the creature, "Who are you? And why'd you help us?"
"I am Pic. I helped you because I wanted revenge on that Winter Prince guy. He took my tail."
"Okay, Pic. What are you?" Lynx asked suspiciously.
"Can I really say what I am? I don't feel like dying today."
Phenom looked over at Lynx who kept his eyes on Pic. The coyote sighed, turned into his feral form, escaped the handcuffs and shackles, then sat down next to me. "I trust you." He said to Pic. "You can say what species you are. I'm sure the Prince will utilize his manners and not attack or kill you on the spot."
Pic rolled its eyes, "Yeah right." It said sarcastically.
I stared directly at Pic, "I'm sure he won't attack you." I glared at Lynx who sighed and sat down next to Phenom. "Besides, you saved us and brought us to your home."
Pic sighed, "Fine. Fine. I'll say what I am." It cleared its throat, "I am... a male Demon Fey-"
"What?!" Lynx snarled. He got up halfway, but Phenom snapped at him and he sat back down.
"I'm not like them!" Pic whined frantically, "In fact, I'm not for them in any way! I'm against them! Trust me!"
I recalled someone saying the Demon Fey were evil and are a banished species. "Why aren't you like them? What made you change?"
"Because I don't like their ways! They're horrible beasts that torture for no reason, kill innocent Fey, they even kill each other!" He paused for a breath before continuing, "I changed my ways because their lead lieutenant told me to burn down a house with the family inside. I couldn't do it, so I left without a trace. But my mother... the leader of the Demon Fey... she found me here and is trying to convince me to come back."
"Then why do you follow their traditions? Pinning your ears together with the upside down cross?" Lynx asked.
"I still have respect for our traditions, even if I'm against the Demon Fey themselves." Pic replied quickly. "Besides, they are planning someth-"
He was cut off by the sound of huge beating wings. He turned to us and mouthed the words 'Run'. We did as we were told and booked it. As I ran, my shackles and handcuffs broke. The same thing happened to Lynx. We dived into the bushes and watched Pic and the strange being encounter each other.
I watched as a woman lowered herself to the ground and folded her black wings against her back. She was probably the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen. She had strong cheekbones with huge bright red eyes, her ears were long and pointed like an elf's. Her silver hair ran down to her lower back. She wore a black dress complimented with black slippers. Her crown was obviously made of some sort of metal, and it looked like barbed wire tangled together to make a circle.
But when she spoke, her voice was rough yet was a normal pitch. "Son..." She whispered as she stroked the side of Pic's face, "Please... stand up."
Pic stood up and quickly transformed into a copy of his mother. But, he still had the same dog ears pinned together. His eyepatch was gone, uncovering a pure red eye with no pupil or iris. He had the same cheekbones and the same color hair, silver. His was cut short, and there was a short braid on the right side of his head. All six of his eyes opened, the five small ones dotting his forehead. I don't know if the thing under his eyepatch was an eye, or a substitute for an eyepatch. They both had otherworldly beauty that made my heart skip a beat.
"Son... you've changed." Pic's mother said sadly.
He nodded and looked up at her, "I have, my Queen."
"Call me mother." The Queen growled.
"Mother..." He mumbled.
"I have your crown." She said loudly as she pulled a crown, similar to hers, out of nowhere. "Wear it in the name of the Demon Fey. We will rise again with war plans to take back what is ours."
Pic slowly took the crown, "Mother... when will these plans come into play?"
"Soon, Prince Pic, son." She unfolded her wings and took one final look at Pic, "I'm depending on you. You're the last of my sons."
Pic threw the crown on the ground and reached out desparately for his mother, "Wait! The only one!?" But she was already flying away.
The three of us crept out of the bush and slowly walked over to Pic who still had his arm stretched out in the air. His one big eye was glassy and it looked like he was going to cry. Phenom put his hand on Pic's shoulder. The Prince looked over at him with surprise like he forgot we were there.
"I'm sorry about your fraternal relations." Phenom said quietly.
Pic took in a deep breath and looked away from Phenom. "It's okay... they were doomed to be executed one day. Besides, the Queen will probably have seven more sons and forget about me."
I didn't want to think about how many sons the Queen of the Demon Fey was going to have, so I turned my attention to the sunset. The air was already cooling down, and the bright sun was growing dimmer. The moon was high in the sky already, shining brightly and filling the campsite with silver. The red flame was dying down to a pink spark in the firepit.
Prince Lynx appeared beside me, "I guess we should rest now, princess."
I looked over at him and he smiled. "Okay."
Pic looked at us, "You three can rest in the tent over there." He pointed at the tent on the left, "I think I'll stay up tonight."
He reminded me of Line, the way she stayed up at night when we were sleeping and tried her best to stay quiet. Phenom took his hand off of Pic's shoulder and turned into his feral coyote form. Lynx and Phenom started walking to the tent and I followed close behind. I could feel Pic watching me from behind, it was awkward.
Once we were inside, it seemed much bigger than it did on the outside. There were four "beds" that were actually a bunch of body pillows and a few blankets, two dressers, and a cooler. I looked inside it and found a few bottles of weird orange stuff.
"I wouldn't eat or drink anything without clarification that it is secure for consumption." Phenom barked from behind me.
I closed the cooler and flopped down in the pile of body pillows. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around myself, but I didn't fall asleep. I stared at the ceiling with my mind blank. A moment for a break...
I felt Phenom walk on top of me and lay down on my legs.
He's still too big for this. I sighed in my head.
I glanced to my side and saw Lynx spread out again with his arm over his eyes on another pile of body pillows. His hair was messier than before and his crown was laying beside him... well, a safe distance away. His ears were visible in his state of messy hair. I stared for a few seconds before accepting the fact that his ears were pointed like an elf's. I sighed and turned away. Things were getting weirder and I didn't like it.
Phenom shifted his weight which made me realize that my legs had fallen asleep. I sighed again. I wished I was back at Dixon's house, laying in my own bed with my own blankets. I wished I could eat whatever I wanted without 'clarification that it is secure for consumption.' I wished Leo Sumor was back and that Prince Dexis wasn't hunting me.
Something cold rolled down my cheek and suddenly stopped in its tracks. I freed an arm from the blanket and picked up yet another frozen tear. Prince Dexis has to be doing this... I tossed the tear away and laid on my side, causing Phenom to fall over and grunt. He quickly repositioned himself so he was leaning against my legs. I forced myself to close my eyes and at least try to sleep. It worked better than I thought.
I didn't have a dream that night. I just stared at the black void for hours and hours.
I woke up to bright sunlight streaming through the entrance of the tent. I rolled over on my other side and saw that Lynx was gone. I sat up, Phenom was gone too. I stretched and yawned, stood up, and walked out of the tent. I squinted at the sunlight until my eyes adjusted. I looked around and saw Lynx crouched over a small flower. There was golden dust floating around his hands as he held the flower as if embracing it. He looked at me as soon as I stepped out. He removed his hands from the flower and walked over to me. I watched the plant fall over and start to turn grey, shriveling up as it died.
"Good morning, princess!" Lynx said happily as he stood in front of me.
I nodded and yawned. "Yeah, good morning Lynx." My stomach made a loud noise and I sighed. I hadn't eaten anything since a crappy school lunch two days ago.
Lynx took notice. "Oh yeah, I guess we should get you some food." He scratched the back of his head, "I can lead you around and find you food." He suggested.
Pic suddenly appeared, still in that striking humanoid form. He had only one eye open, and his eyepatch was back on. "Yeah right. I'll take her around, you probably don't know the difference between an apple and poison."
"There are apples in Hiorb?" Lynx asked sounding surprised.
Pic rolled his eyes, "That proves my point." He looked at me, "C'mon, let's go. I'll get you something that won't kill you."
I nodded and followed Pic as he led me to the edge of the clearing.
"So, your mother... she's the Queen of the Demon Fey?" I asked as he helped me over a fallen tree.
Pic nodded, "It's not a title I want. Nobody wants to be the Prince of an evil banished species." He continued walking through the forest without looking back at me.
"But what can you do? You said you changed, maybe you can also change the way the Fey look at the Demon Fey." I said.
He looked back at me for a second, then looked back in front of him, "Nobody trusts the Demon Fey, no matter how hard you try. They won't even listen to me."
I sighed and muttered, "Maybe if you were a bit more positive..."
He stopped dead in his tracks and whirled around with all six eyes open, "Excuse me? How am I supposed to be positive when everyone and their mother wants to kill my kind?"
I was silent for a moment, then replied simply, "Show yourself. Don't hide in the woods. Show that you are different and not like the others."
He made a hissing noise and his forked tongue stuck out in disgust, "Why would I show myself? All Fey want to kill me, none trust me. Except for you. But you aren't even Fey! Your words have no meaning here." And at that, he turned around and continued trekking through the forest.
I still followed him, mainly because we were far from the campsite and I didn't feel like giving up on him. His words still rang in my head; But you aren't even Fey! Your words have no meaning here.
We came upon a clearing with a huge apple tree growing in the center of it. It wasn't as big as the tree that Line lives in, but it was still memorable as a large tree. Pic veered off to the left and leaned on a tree. "Go ahead." He muttered.
I began walking towards the tree, but stopped a few feet in front of it because something caught my eye. I squinted and saw a black boot, then a leg, two legs, a torso... Prince Dexis. I sighed and stepped back. He peered down at me with burning blue eyes.
There was a long period of silence. "What do you want?" I growled.
"Today's your last day." He said simply as he sat in the tree.
My eyes widened. It was my last day. We spent one day traveling to the castle, then one day traveling to Matruel, here. That left us with one day left before Prince Dexis would start his hunt and eventually kill me. I couldn't find words to say in response.
He narrowed his eyes, his pupils turning to slits again, "I still don't understand why you went looking for me here, rather why Line told you. Could you elaborate on that subject?"
I turned behind me and saw Pic still leaning against the tree, all his eyes narrowed on Prince Dexis. I turned back to the Winter Prince, "I d-don't know." I answered like a five year old.
He raised an eyebrow, "Oh really?"
My hands were shaking, "She told us to find you... o-or else we'll all be tortured u-until death..."
Prince Dexis sighed, "She could never do that. She's grown too fond of you, we all have her to keep us alive. You've been traveling on a lie."
I tilted my head and tried my best to strike fear into him by narrowing my eyes. "Why are you helping us? Why are you telling me this?"
Prince Dexis tugged an apple off of a branch and tossed it to me. I barely caught it. He swiftly lowered himself to the ground and took a few steps towards me. I took a step back when he came too close for comfort. "Because, you're interesting. I like watching this whole thing play out, how other Fey react to you." He tilted his head to look over me and at Pic. "Plus, we have a war on our hands."
I remembered Pic's mother saying that she had plans for war and it would happen soon. I silently punched myself for not making it a bigger subject.
"You have no right to be spying on us, Roxten." Pic growled from the tree.
"And you have no right to address me that way, Demon." Prince Dexis spat back.
"I am a Prince." Pic snarled.
"Not to me you aren't."
I turned and saw Pic fuming, his fists were balled and all six of his eyes were glowing red. He turned away and stormed off into the woods, leaving me with a Prince who wanted to kill me.
I turned back to Prince Dexis who was now staring down at me. "Take me to them." He stated.
"What?"
"Take me to them." He said again. "If there's a war with the Demon Fey, we need to stop our quarrels. A truce must be put into play, or we'll all fight each other just because we're different."
That's a sudden change of heart... I thought about what to say, but couldn't come up with anything so I went with my gut. "If you want a truce, you have to take away the three day limit of me being here."
The Prince was silent for a moment, "We'll have a deal but only if you bring me to the campsite and convince your friends to a truce by nightfall. If you do, I will call off everything I said about killing you. If you don't, my threat still stands and I will hunt you down starting at sunrise tomorrow."
I nodded, "Okay."
Prince Dexis held out his hand, frost swirled around it and blue light shone from his palm. I quickly took it and shook it.
"Then we have a deal, Alice." He let go of my hand and placed his at his side. "Now I hope you remember which way you came from." He said quietly.
I turned away from him and started walking back towards the forest. I didn't look to see if he was following. I looked down at the apple in my hands, it looked like a normal red apple, but I still didn't have complete trust for the Winter Prince. Maybe he wants to test me to see if I trust him. Smart. I looked back up at the forest and saw we were already close to the campsite. We came upon the fallen tree. I had difficulty climbing over it, so Prince Dexis boosted me up and I quickly scrambled over it. I turned around to see how he would get over it. He jumped over it in one single leap. I hid my surprise with a straight face, I turned around with no comment and kept on walking.
Once we were in the campsite, I could tell nobody was understanding what happened. Except for Phenom. He sighed and hid his face behind his paws.
"What is this?! Are we all playing nice now?" Pic flung his arm in the air and stared directly at me with a look of disgust.
"I'll explain in a minute. Just sit down and shut your trap." I muttered. I sighed when I saw that I came out too harsh than I had anticipated. I sat down next to Phenom and watched as Prince Dexis seemed to teleport into a tree behind us.
Lynx was already settled down, sitting next to the firepit with his legs crossed. "Well, princess? Tell us what happened."
"Prince Dexis wants a truce because-"
"Hell no!" Pic yelled. "That is a disrespectful and unworthy ruler! If he thinks he can-"
Lynx punched him in the gut. "You were saying?"
"Anyway," I growled, "he wants a truce for the time being because of the war. He says we need to stop our pointless bickering or we'll all end up fighting each other while there are bigger things that we should be worrying about."
"There's more to it than that, Alice. You mediated a deal with him. What was it?" Phenom asked clearly from beside me.
I looked up and behind us at Prince Dexis who didn't bother to look at me. "I said that, if I convince you guys to a truce, he'll let me go of my three day living limit. That's all we did, I swear."
"Immensely well." Phenom said. He looked at Lynx, "How do you surmise about this, Prince Lynx? Will you accede to the truce?"
"If it'll save princess here, then yeah. I'll agree to a temporary truce." Lynx said in response.
"Temporary truce it is." Prince Dexis said from behind me.
"How about you, Prince Pic? Will you concur to a truce?" Phenom asked.
Pic crossed his arms, obviously not wanting to cooperate.
If there's one thing I learned over my sixteen years of life, it's that I'm pretty damn good at screaming to convince people to do stuff. Pic is fragile when it comes to the subject of his species, so I decided to use that against him to make him crack. "Pic." I said loudly, "If you don't agree to this truce, your species will take over Hiorb and make the whole place a living hell! I don't think you'd want to live in a world full of evil people, and you most certainly don't want to let your mother win and turn you over to the dark side! So you'd better agree to this damn truce, or evil will take over this place and enslave all who live in it!" I took in a deep breath and stared directly at him.
Everyone shot me surprised looks. I could tell Prince Dexis did too because I could feel him staring at me.
Pic stared at me with all of his eyes open. He seemed to have a sudden breakdown. He buried his face in his hands, "Fine. Fine. Fine. I'll do it. I agree to your truce."
Phenom looked at Prince Dexis, "It is decided. Both Princes concur with your truce. We continue without quarrels until the temporary truce is deemed over." He glanced at me before looking back at Prince Dexis, "And Alice is no longer being hunted by you. She is clear of any of your military endeavoring to extirpate her."
"Then our deal is done." Prince Dexis said. I looked back at him to see that he had no expresssion on his face. He still didn't look at me.
"So... what's your next move? Anyone know what the hell we are gonna do next?" Lynx asked, looking at each and every one of us.
"I think I know what to do..." Pic said with a devious grin.

I wouldn't say I created the Fey, but I did kind of, uh, customize it to my liking.
As for the Demon Fey, yeah I would say that I created that species.

yeah, I don't care
just keep in mind that they have their ears pinned together with an upside down cross, and they have five or less eyes, depending on their rank... and they can be a humanoid or a dog

(Change of plans, the highest amount of eyes is 10) Well, I haven't really had much time to figure that out, but here's a simple chart:
Leader: 8 thru 10 eyes
Leader Offspring: 7 eyes
Lieutenant: 4 eyes
First Class: 3 eyes
Regulars: 2 eyes (just two main eyes, no extra ones on the forehead)
Lowlife: 1 eye (in the center of the forehead)
When going down a rank, an eye closes and doesn't reopen, the number of eyes closed depends on the drop in ranks. When going up a rank, new eyes open, the number of eyes opening depends on the rise in ranks.
right now, the only classes open to add a Demon Fey to are First Class, Regulars, or Lowlife
