hmmm maybe abit more dramatic lighting can improve the cool look of this dude
and I cant pinpoint the source of light actually, the lighting on the sword seems to be coming from everywhere =S
but yup u did a great job on the patterns and details! ^^

absolutly no corrolation with background O_o The guy looks like you pasted him on it with copy/paste. Try adding some brown on him or common light source or unifying texture options are limitless.
Also that trim on his clothing does not support wrinkles which makes it look kinda flat.
Details are nice though. I think you got too cought up in them -)
