You are a curious one, aren't you

Here's what I can tell you: I cannot live entirely from the earnings on deviantart. It's more like a little pocket money on the side. So if I were you, I would think of alternatives, because living from art is very likely not gonna happen.

Secondly, I am all for learning by doing. If you want to get into texture art, you gotta make your own experiences and choices. That is not only because it will you teach way more than I ever could, but also because it will give you the opportunity of developing a unique style.

There is an FAQ in which I explain a little about making textures and the neccesary steps, so if you're interested you can check that out:

FAQ - my answers to your questions!Hi everyone!
I always wanted to do a FAQ that I can update from time to time and link to. So if the question you have isn't already answered below, just ask me in the comments and I will add your question in here and answer it. Now let's cut right to the chase.
acheronnights asks:
1. "What do you do to create your digital textures?"

The first step is always what I like to call the 'texture hunt': I grab my camera (til 2013 with my Canon EOS 400D, since 2014 with my Canon EOS 700D + kit lense) and go out in bright daylight to look for interesting surfaces. When I come home after one or two hours, I rarely have collected less than 100 images, often many more. At that point it's just a matter of combining those raw images in Photoshop using different layering options and color adjustments. I'll explain more about that later.
Here's a Work in Progress sheet I made so you can see a few different approaches on making a texture:

Good luck, girl!

Thank you, the base is a photo of that battered old car we came across last time we were out shooting. I was so inspired by all these bright colors and patterns today on the flea market, I had to make something bright.
