Russian art doesn't get enough notice and most art history books ignore it. Here's a nice collection of 19th and 20th century paintings: [link]
In particular I like Ilya Repin, Ivan Billibin, Nesterov, and Vasnetsov. When I was visited Japan I found a catalog from a Moscow gallery in a used bookstore. I always thought Russian Laquer painting was a really neat style. If you're interested in there's a beatiful children's book called "The Magic Nesting Doll" by illustrator Laurel Long.

i love the subtle details on her clothes and her jewelry is painted with such care. (i especially love the background)
