Crows fluttered 'round their chosen Princess in a slow procession through the forest. Their King awaited his new bride.ACEO size 2.5x3.5 inch watercolor
Russian art doesn't get enough notice and most art history books ignore it. Here's a nice collection of 19th and 20th century paintings: [link]
In particular I like Ilya Repin, Ivan Billibin, Nesterov, and Vasnetsov. When I was visited Japan I found a catalog from a Moscow gallery in a used bookstore. I always thought Russian Laquer painting was a really neat style. If you're interested in there's a beatiful children's book called "The Magic Nesting Doll" by illustrator Laurel Long.

I love this.
I was reading a large book of original Grimm fairytales the other day, and they were wonderful. Such as Cinderella's step sisters cutting off their heels and toes to fit into the glass slipper. Oh my. Anyhow, this reminds me of one of them, and it's absolutely stunning. Wonderful job.

Another gorgeous painting!! Her gown is beautiful - her headress is amazing!! The wing cloak on her shoulder is a lovely touch as well.
And I agree with you about Russian art! It is so overlooked - I was fortunate enough to go there a couple years ago and what they have done artistically-wise is AMAZING. The lacquer boxes particuarly!
But this piece, another must fav!

I know I haven't commented on your paintings in quite a while, but I really like this one. Everything from the details of her dress, to her cloak of feathers, to the crows fluttering around her, really just appeals to me. It really feels like there's a great story-in-the-making hidden behind this illustration.

My sister once game me a book of Russian art and I agree with you, the stuff doesn't get enough attention. I really love the outfit. If you ever do a full shot pic of the girl and maybe her potiental husband, I'd love to see it.
