These little desert foxes are so cute...I just had to make a fennec mask. The idea happened suddenly yesterday, & then the pattern just fell out of my head on to some paper, & this mask was finished in no time.My daughter really really wants one of these...apparently they make great pets. She's a lousy pet-owner though so, I don't think we'll be getting a fennec anytime soon. Still, they are awfully cute! Yes, their ears really are that huge.
Like all my masks, this is hand-carved and hand-shaped from one piece of thick leather, with no molds, stamps or forms. Then, it's painted with Liquitex colorfast acrylics.

Beautifully done! Defiantly looks like the animal of inspiration.
On the subjects of pets however, Fennecs can be difficult to house train as some foxy instincts and habits remain.

This is very true. Though the pet-grade fennec foxes are bred specifically for docility, they are not the same as a dog or cat (more like a ferret) and have special needs and requirements as exotic pets. Personally, I don't have the time or energy to keep one, & frankly I'd rather save the life of one of the thousands of unwanted dogs and cats at our local shelter, than spend thousands on one exotic. But that's just me. ^_^

Oh and awhile back i asked about where to get the leather but my mom said it was pricey but i found a place in town to purchase leather of all sorts at a cheap price!
These masks inspired me so now i'm gonna try making masks now, thanx!
