This is a pair of Half Dragons I just finished the other day...custom orders from my Etsy shop.I call them "half-dragons" because with this design I leave out the lower half of the mask; the dragon snout. Not everyone wants to wear a dragon mask that gives them a great long schnozz.
Each made from hand-carved, hand tooled 8oz leather. I use a tool called a "mule foot" stamp to make those scales. It's supposed to be used for scalloped tooled edges on Western-style belts but I find it's the perfect "scale" if you do it correctly. Takes a long time but it's a cool effect & worth the effort.

Thanks! No...I do have a pattern and a template to transfer the design, so the carving is the same, but they're hand cut & hand carved each time. If you look closely you'll see variances...they're just small because I'm that good.

I admire your work tremendously, and if I could afford one of your masks I would buy one (I love masks, for decoration though... masquerades are non-existent here). I was just curious to how you work... SO, how many different patterns do you have at the moment... and do you make them in paper or... wood or leather or...?

Omg...hundreds of patterns. Seriously. I've lost count. I save a pattern of everything I make.
I have a heavy craft paper cutout, to trace onto the leather, as well as a plastic film transfer for the carved design, so each mask design gets two patterns.
