Description Another recently-finished dragon mask...I finally painted this guy yesterday. More of a burgundy than a red actually.

Point of interest: the flame motif is inspired by Asian temple art. I went to Japan and got all kinds of wonderful ideas...you can read all about it here: [link]

I cropped this pic to show the ties, which I thought looked kind of baroque. Hmm. It'd make a pretty cool puzzle, actually.

As ever, the mask is hand carved, hand tooled leather, wet-formed with no mold, heat set, and painted with Liquitex acrylics in black, burgundy and bright bronze.

This guy is numbered and available at my Etsy shop: [link]

It would make an insanely challenging puzzle, you mean to say

I really like the flame styles - the little gold accents seem to make those swirls stand out even more. I thought, at first, that it was blue for the main body, which I didn't really care for with the red and gold, but I think it is black and just the light playing tricks with me (I just took pictures of black leather, and it did that, so... yeah, just assuming there )

Very cool! I actually think the flame styles may be really cool to see in a Shi-Shi type design, too, with a bit more of that stylized look! (and, that may be just because I've become obsessed with trying to get a kimono with shi-shi on it )

As always, this is beautiful. It looks like it's the opposite of the virdigris mask you just posted, since it's red and the horns are pointing straight out. That's not a bad thing though, they're both so pretty.

Once again, gorgeously done. I love the use of burgundy; not something you see every day. The bronze really helps to make it pop, too.

Beautiful! Love this specific red colour, almost bloodred. The way you used the gold on the flames is awesome, and makes it a bit more detailed and though a bit smoother. Really nice. And it's nice you did these horns straight, and you've shaped the horns of the green one. You could do so much variations with little things like that. Curious what your next one is going to be. It'll be as great as this one, I know it sure! Well cone

I love the way the burgundy is highlighted by the the bronze. It is just subtle enough, but gives the mask that little something special.

I love love the color combination. Only red and gold can sometimes be too much, but here as accents they really shine from the black

Oooh, I like the bronze edging on the flame-motif - it really makes the pattern pop out - and the good old red-n-black combo never fails to be awesome.

Out of your dragon masks, I think this particlar version is my favourite.

Hahaha! That's alright - it's a pretty fish; it's all shiny and gold, isn't it?

Black and red is one of those colour-combinations that always works; sort of like gold and blue.

I love the use of the bronze to set off and define the burgundy. It's really subtle but I think it gives it great depth.

Thanks. I think it works with the burgundy...less subtle & more flashy.

Ah my apologies. With the lighting in the photo the bronze has a gold look to it. But still it's beautiful!

The patterns on teh mask are beautiful and the flames look insanely pretty.
I like how you sort off highlighted the flames with the bronze, makes them stand out more.

Thank you. That's a pretty traditional rendering of flames in Asia, by the way, so I can't really totally take credit. I saw it at every temple in Japan...
