Description
Thoth was considered one of the more important deities of the Egyptian pantheon. He was often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis or a baboon; these animals were sacred to him.I've received dozens of requests to make a Thoth mask over the years, and I've finally done one. I chose to do the traditional depiction of an Ibis-headed god with a baboon-like black mane. I added the sun disc (also traditional) for an extra point of interest, as the mask was pretty stark. It's still a very basic design, in keeping with all my Egyptian god masks. I like to keep them smooth and with very clean lines.
Like all my masks, this is made from one piece of 8oz hand carved leather. Shaped with no molds or forms, hand painted with Liquitex acrylics.
This mask is available in my Etsy shop: [link]

Thank you. I avoided it for a long time...the beak was intimidating. But I think adding the sun disc balanced it out.

True. Long scary beak, but it turned out ok. I was worried about this design...

I like this design - it's clean and simple, but it really, really works.

Thanks. I almost added an ankh (sp?) to the center forehead too but stopped myself, 'cause all my egyptian gods are fairly simple & I didn't want to clutter this one up.

Good choice, foregoing the ankh (and yeah, that's the correct spelling) - the cleanness of it make the few details really stand out - such as the beak, and the blue crescent.
You got any more Egyptian masks in the making? It'd be interesting to see more.

That's a hell of a nose there; good call on making it go more down than out, that could've been dangerous. The lack of detailing/decoration works well for it, giving it a simple, elegant look.

It actually could have gone longer (the beak), 'cause an ibis has one heck of a long bill. But I decided any longer and yeah, it would have gotten dangerous.
