cheers dude. an original drawing such as this is usually done over a period of around 3 months. i usually work at a2 size paper with karismacolor pencils (though they've now been discontinued so i'm gonna try the new ones - prismacolor' on my next one). i work very close to the paper under intense light with a needle sharp point on the pencil at all times. two-thirds of the 3 months is probably spent sharpening lol. i draw-in very basic lines for guidance (usually around 3 - 4) then let the free-hand and imagination take over. i always have the fully complete work in my head at all times as my art tends to come in plant/fungi-induced 'visions'
