Why do they go for so much? I mean, to spend $400 on a character, when you could just as easily make one yourself? Or maybe they're going to use them in a story they mean to publish or something...??

It's true that some are incredible. I mean, this one in itself, it's so adorable. However, I don't think it's $100 or more adorable... That's kind of a lot of money, you know? For something like that. And that $400 one you mentioned, man.

Yeah, I wouldn't myself spend that much on one, but I'm a high schooler without a job. The people who buy these are probably working jobs that pay a nice amount, so they have money to spend on these.

I suppose so... but if you ('you' as in anybody not you specifically) had that kind of money, wouldn't you spend it on other things? Like... I don't know. /shrugs/ If I had a few hundred dollars, I'd spend it on manga, not a character design. But I guess if they're happy with it then there's no problem.

I can not take adoptions in a serious manner. I will never understand why people are willing to pay $50 dollars for a character design that they can do themselves.

But please do remember. People all have different reasons. Not everyone is creative enough to make a well designed character!
Not everyone wants to rip of some one else's style and make a character like the person they admire... Some people just want to own a character made by some one they look up to.
Try to look at things through eyes other than your own. Sit down. Think! Why would some one want to buy a character if it's so EASY to make one themselves!
The world has more views than your own.
People pay over 100s for an adopt. I cannot take this seriously either. If you design it yourself you don't have to worry about being tied to needless rules like not being able to resell a design that didn't even go through copyright in the first place..

I feel that you don't really need to be popular as long as you will submit them to multiple adoptable groups-where are mostly people subcribed to find and buy new adopts [though, most of them buy with points]

Yes! I suppose people buy them for how it looks in the ref page, but what if you want another drawing of it? If they bought it in the first place I'm guessing it's because they still have to practice on their drawing skills themselves, and I don't think the person who made the adoptable will make another one.

No, I'm serious! All my friends know I really wasn't keen on adopts ever, as I pretty much have the same opinion on them as you.
That's part of the reason why I was very nervous about putting this up. Sadly I need to pay my debt to someone asap, and I also really enjoy creating characters (even though they aren't overly original or anything) so putting the two together, I thought, why not try this? I'm not gonna be an adopt maker nor am I ever gonna buy one, but if someone wants what I drew and I don't need for myself, then I will be happy

Well, yes, although I have to add that I have seen some amazing designs that I probably couldn't come up with even if I tried hard, and there are probably people even less creative than me, so to them, adopts are useful I guess ;;
