Description ink on bee brand ink sketcher's paper.

this is the 2nd in of a series called "pattern recognition:creativity or insanity."

pattern recognition is part of how a person perceives the world around them. it's natural to find patterns all over, some made with the intent of being recognized and some common naturally occurring patterns that most people recognize in passing.
one end of the disease is the mental illness Pareidolia , is a glitch in the mind that causes some people to see patterns in profusion and find what they see has a very powerful effect on them. people that suffer from this recognize patterns everywhere. this is the explanation for conspiracy theorists, people who have religous visions or see jesus in the clouds, etc. this can be interpreted as
a good thing, i think it is the root of creativity. i think that abstract artists are especially prone to finding patterns in their work and viewers can find patterns that give the art the ability to see many things in an abstract work and the things that they recognize are quite different from person to person. the other end of the spectrum is paranoid schizophrenia.

i am exploring this in a small series. i took 's very abstract line art "sonic touch"

[link] tried to find many different patterns in it. i made 5 different versions. i also tried to make them look psychedelic--makes sense, right? one interesting thing is that there is a pattern in the line art that is quite obvious if you look at it carefully. i did my best to avoid making the hand show. glutton for punishment, LOL.

pattern recognition is familiar to most people because of the film "A Beautiful Mind." [link]

creativity and insanity, are they different things anyway? i dunno. i really like this, especially the spiral in the upper right with the circles inside the different colored regions.

Very nice colors and all

I think that schizophrenia starts when one cannot distinguish between imaginating something and the "hard" sensory information. He treats everything the same then - as a stuff already in a material existence. Paranoia starts when you add anxiety problems to creative individual.

Beside this pareidolia looks to me like a very good thing - one big ocean of possibilities to fish in or .. sail into
