I think that we all knew that this was where Twilight, Spike and Starlight ended up in that last alternate future. DHX can never admit it for copyright reasons but I really, really feel this is likely.

it's hard not to come to this realization. everything fits. the land looks like it was hit by a nuclear fallout. the constant cloud cover. would anyone be surprised if Littlepip trotted by?

Actually, I would have liked to have seen Minister Rainbow Dash, who had come home after defeating Gilda and completing her last mission from Pinkie Pie. The one thing she was least expecting to find was that there was a Princess and a friend still alive to whom she could show Loyalty... and also an enemy who, if she understands all the eggheadery correctly, was somehow responsible for all of this.
Starlight Glimmer was about to have a very, very bad day.
I can just see Twilight peeling a power armour-wearing Rainbow off of a battered Starlight whilst a weeping Rainbow was screaming: "All my friends! Our whole nation! Millions of innocent lives! Billions! You killed the whole world! Their blood is on your hooves!" It would certainly have given Starlight's reformation a certain meaning that wasn't in the show.

Yes, either there or in an alternate universe where Celestia went crazy instead of Luna and turned into Solar Flare, burning everything on the planet to nothing but dust and ash, which was then whipped up by the winds to block out the sky.
