Description
After not drawing Relana for a while, I thought I'd redesign her and give her a new look. Even after trying to get away from her blue tang origins, I found that it's just an integral part of her character. I also tried sitting through illustrating a coral reef--I'm trying to go for really detailed pieces now, so I'll see how far I get with this project. This is also part of #PromoteArt 's Underwater Life contest. It's a one-entry contest and I thouuught I was gonna draw another entry before the deadline, but I'm gonna stick with this one.

I remember her!
I love her expression and her character seems very silly and playful which makes her very appealing. All the colors add to that playful feeling and draw the viewer in because of fun vibe. At least that's what I feel when I look at this. I love the way the large fish at the bottom seems to have this kinda grumpy look because of the marks above his eye. Kinda like he's looking at Relana going "Goshdern kidz! Always making a racket!"
I remeber liking her design before. Seeing it again tweaked or not it looks good.

WELL GOSH
Thanks so much! I'm so glad she came out the way you've perceived her because that's exactly how I wanted to draw her! Also, I love drawing fish because they're permanently grumpy. Freakin' adorable animals.

This looks really nice! So liking the detail with all those tiny scales on Relana there, they look great. :]

I'm loving her pose! Not to mention the detail in the background. This is an excellent piece, with vibrant colors and great dimensional depth. Well done!

Thank you so very much! It took me a few days to figure out how the heck I was gonna go about detailing all the coral. I love working with bright colors, so I had to go with obnoxiously vibrant stuff.

Her scales were being a pain in the rear when I illustrated this. I erased them like three times. :I
