The book is rather fresh to me. Seeing the emptiness in her eyes, the horrors on her body, and the last pieces of finery tell enough of this character's story to get a grasp of how her story progressed. What a great capture of her before her grand finale.

This is great, I'm glad that people like kaltain. She was an amazing character, and I feel that she gives us a little insight on what girls today are like. Backstabbing b*tches. But she did it for love. And she sacrificed herself, which gave us more on her personality than just a bratty girl. But I feel sad that she died. Personally she was one of my favourite characters in the book.

YES, I love this! I'm so glad she had a bit of redemption; I always liked her. Great picture-her face is so expressive!

She was always one of my favorites. Too bad she had to die so soon, though...

I love this, as I do all your portrait pics, but many of them, including this one, have eyes with too much white area and not enough of the iris-and-pupil for either human proportions or, by most human standards, attractiveness.

If you look at your own eyes in a mirror, you'll notice that in anything but a particularly wide-eyed stare, the whites of your eyes take up less than half the visible space between your eyelids.

DO feel free to ignore me, of course; you should draw whatever way you please, but to me these are disturbingly wrong and keep ruining my enjoyment of the rest of the picture, in over half your work.

(It's possible I've said this before, in which case I apologize; I'm almost 60 and just spent a long and totally exhausting year dealing with my mother's failing health, multiple moves into smaller and higher-care places, and then her death, her funeral, and sorting out her possessions and family memorabilia and all, so I'm only beginning to regain some ability to focus and my memory is utterly shot.)

Apologetically,

How rude can you be? Unsolicited criticism telling someone their art is disturbing and unattractive, and then justifying your meanness with your personal problems. Basically you said, "I think your art style is wrong and unattractive and I'm telling you this because I am sad and lonely." If you're trying to pawn off your sadness on someone else by giving unwanted and totally opinionated criticism, then maybe you should look inside yourself and see why that is. If I were Merwild, I'd delete this comment. Totally unsolicited and straight up rude.

LilyLuxe, thank you for defending Merwild from what you (mis)understood to be an attack, especially if I was unclear enough that Merwild thought so too.

Rudeness is not my intent; most artists and writers I know (in person and online) want useful crits because they're a great way to see past our own blind spots, like workshoppers pointing out my own overuse of adjectives and adverbs, and run-on sentences connected by semicolons.

I would NEVER send crits to an incompetent artist or writer, nor insults meant only to wound to ANYONE.

Sending a thoughtful and NON-abusive critique is intended as a compliment; it's offering an outside opinion that the artist/writer/etc. can treat like any other tool or material, using or adapting or discarding. I've learned a lot from workshoppers pointing out my own flaws, including the cases where they misunderstood what I was doing because I hadn't written clearly enough,; I'm glad you told me I'd been unclear here.

In this case, I didn't, as you suggest, try to "pawn my sadness off on someone else"; I only mentioned my depression as an apology for forgetting whether I had already sent Merwild a crit on this topic before and could therefore be (mis)interpreted as badgering hir, which would be both rude and insulting if I had. I know I've enjoyed Merwild's art for some time, and I also know I sent a helpful crit to SOME artist on a similar subject, but my memory is currently damaged enough I can't remember which artist, and I only had time to check comments on half a dozen of Merwild's pics.

In any case, thank you for defending Merwild, both as a person and as an artist, from something I wrote poorly enough that it could be misunderstood as an attack. If I accidentally do it AGAIN sometime, please let me know as rudely as you think appropriate, neh?

I'm not deleting, everyone can give an opinion, though if this person has a problem with my character not being attractive enough then I reached my goal because what this person seems to forget is that attractiveness is one of the stupidest concept ever and I draw my characters to mainly look real, not pretty
