Inside the heart of mankind is a glimmering light that keeps the darkness at bay. Though hands may reach out from the shadows to grip at the small hope within; our will, our strength, our tears will help grow the fire of our future.

This piece came from the inner darkness that lurks inside my own heart. I tend to struggle with the shadows of depression. Though I know my strength comes from within, I tend to still feel the grip of the lies and hardships that linger in the depths of my soul always trying to find my weak points to squeeze out every drop of my hope.
Thankfully I am blessed with those who have lifted me up through the darkness and into a future. My goals and dreams are the lights within that keep me struggling through the darkness towards a bright destiny.

I have really been inspired through this contest to see my own shadows for what they are, and know that I will overcome, day by day, minute by minute, one step at a time.
