Guilt, a madness that drives one to fix their mistakes, but can lead to more failures than solutions. Starflare's madness taught him this painfully

All I'm saying is that while i do question how much a fool Starflare was in some areas and why he didn't so certain things sooner...I think that having him die would be too predictable of an ending. Not to mention that Metal-Kitty is bound to have all sorts of surprises left that answer our questions.

Starflare...accept their help. You've done bad things....but not like Harvest...you and Harvest are two sides of the same coin..but you're not him. You're the good side. You're salvageable. You can be saved. He can't be. He will bring nothing but death and destruction. He is a monster. A crazy genocidal bastard. Harvest will pay. You can't try to stop the inevitable because the last time you tried to do that Twilight was nearly killed. It's not a matter of strength you just don't have what it takes. You are anything but a monster....as broken as you are. You should want your life back after all this. These guys are your chance to get it all back. Your chance to be a father and husband. Your chance to contribute. It wont be the exact same as before, but it will be worth it...if you accept their help and try to approach things from a different angle. You have to try...for Lockette....for Starlight...maybe even for your allies...maybe even for Twilight....
Yeah that's how much I love this story...

Sorry dude, but I have to agree with Starflare on this one. As much of a monster as Harvest is, it was Starflare who helped him reclaim the crown. It was Starflare who created all of those changeling duplicates that almost killed Twilight. Unicorns everywhere are all about to be burned to death and it's basically all his fault. He's the reason all of this is happening and he wants to put an end to it. And the only way to do that is for one of them to die. He knows that Twilight plans on sacrificing herself, and he knows how determined she is to do it. Do you really think that after causing all of this to happen, he's going to just let Twilight fix his mistakes for him and kill herself? Like the man says; he's already caused the world enough pain as it is. He isn't going to let others suffer because of him any longer. Honestly, people keep criticizing him for wasting all this time, but if I were in his shoes, I'd probably do the exact same.

Star... I get why you're doing this but honestly sometimes it's okay to let others fix your mistakes. You're... you're not strong enough to beat Harvest. It's time to let someone else to deal with that sick son of a bitch.

WhitewolfStormrunner In reply to Dragondash98 [2015-02-15 00:05:04 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but the alternative is for TWILIGHT to sacrifice HERSELF, rather than HIM doing it.
And I just get ther feeling that when Twi's friends find out that that's what Luna's cryptic remark to Twi in the barn meant, they're not gonna be at ALL happy about the idea of losing her again, and PERMANENTLY, this time.
And besides, as to his NOT being strong enough, I think that he's going to surprise us all before this is over.

Drakenhof In reply to valkyria20chronicles [2015-02-15 00:43:47 +0000 UTC]
No, if it is useless. And he knows he doesnΒ΄t have any chance to stop Red Harvest. His attempt to stop him is just a selfish suicide desire born of guilt and shame, not an altruistic sacrifice; he is so obssesed with redeeming his acts, that he only thinks in himself, and even attack others who want to help him to stop Harvest, because he thinks they would rob him his redemption. Read all his discourse "only I can stop this, I must do this..." Always "I".
His way to redemption is forgiving himself, not jumping recklessly into his own death.

Kyuzai In reply to Drakenhof [2015-06-25 19:58:07 +0000 UTC]
That's something I agree with. He's running from his mistakes. He's not worthy of the altruistic sacrifice because we are seeing his flaws, and we have been told he can't do it. I'd like to assume that he hasn't done enough to deserve to die. Harvest certainly has. But at the same time I'm not sure if Starflare has done enough wrong for death to be the proper punishment...looking back at the old pages, he has certainly done wrong, but is it enough to deserve death? Or is it just enough for the fitting punishment to be living with the guilt and eventually, like you said, forgiving himself?
I used to hope it was the latter, but it MIGHT be the former.....I also used to think Starflare dying would be bullshit for that very reason.
Instead I created a story based off of this....my character will live. He's similar to Starflare, but i got to make it VERY clear that he doesn't deserve death.
I don't know if M-K' tragic character will live, but mine will. But still I'm curious. Can't help but think if Flare dies something will feel wrong, but M-K knows best so all I can do is wait for him to show us.

He is jumping recklessly into his death in order to save everyone. Thats why its an redeeming action.
Do not forget the fact that he is so desperate to stop Twiligt because he does not want her to die "AGAIN".
Its Twilight who is the selfish one here. She was the one faking her death making her friends go through the pain of burying her. And now she wants to sacrifice herself to stop this, making them have to go through the same pain again. And she is USING their help in order to achieve that.
Starflare does not want that to happen to solve a problem he is partially responsible for.
And you say its useless and he is unable to defeat Harvest? Let my point out that Twilight already nearly killed him earlier. If she had hit his head, this would be over already.
As it stand now by the state of the comic, Starflare i perfectly capable of defeating Harvest, especially given his powers.

Drakenhof In reply to valkyria20chronicles [2015-02-15 12:15:43 +0000 UTC]
Disagree. He is jumping into his death to stop his suffering and shut his bad concience; saving everyone is secondary to him. Thats why he is so obssesed with fighting Red Harvest he alone. He wants revenge, against Harvest and against himself. Revenge is selfish, and is not redemption.
Β And I wasnΒ΄t talking about Twilight anyway.

JinseiKyuzai In reply to Drakenhof [2015-02-15 16:42:28 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Somebody REALLY needs to beat that into his head. He needs to accept their help and fight for more than just himself. I get why he thinks this, but someone REALLY needs to get him to stop this crap. Although Twilight has her fair share of wrong ideas. Neither of them are 100% right. They best be reaching a compromise. That guy is NOT getting off that easy. I don't think Twi will let him abandon his loved ones.

valkyria20chronicles In reply to Drakenhof [2015-02-15 15:54:18 +0000 UTC]
Well thats the truth. He wants to fix the mess and save everyone and take resposibility for his mistakes. That IS redemption. The whole reason he is figthing them is to protect their lives.
And i know YOU werent talking about Twilight, but I was, as an example.
Twilight is the selfish one here, seeking her own redemption in the worst way possible by planning to kill herself permanently this time. USING her friends to achieve that.
And i find it funny that you ignored my argument that Twilight had already nearly killed Harvest earlier.
So Starflare is obviously capable of taking him down since he is far more powerful than Twilight. So his efforts would not have been useless.

He has already said his reasons in the last panel: "is the only way i can forgive myself"
He only cares about him and his redemption; saving lives is secondary. He is a selfish suicide in search of revenge, not an altruistic hero.

valkyria20chronicles In reply to Drakenhof [2015-02-15 18:10:58 +0000 UTC]
No he does not only care for himself. He cant forgive himself because of whats happening to others. HE was the one who saved Twilights life after all.
Twilight on the other hand seeks the very same thing while USING her friends!
