Description
[UPDATE: I decided I wanted to update Paladin's portrait, and here we are! You can still see the original down below for comparison.]Introducing...
The Luminous Paragon...
The Golden Wonder...
The Light Guardian...
The Hyperion-Lion...
The guy who giggles every time somebody calls him "Tighty Whitey"....
PALADIN.
Striker is the Batman of my series. Glimmer is the Wonder Woman. Paladin here is the Superman. He is Diamond City's very first superhero, appearing 22 years before the start of my story. The very first act of superheroism the lion committed was to save the life of a one-year-old German Shepherd, and he has saved countless lives ever since. Paladin is by far the most respected of the Guardians (a team of superheroes he founded and became the leader of), and he is also the most mysterious... even to himself.
The lion has no memory of the first 20 years of his life. He has no idea who his parents were, if he has any family or friends, or what his name used to be. All he remembers, is that he woke up one day to find himself in the modest temple of The Four Masters (a dragon, a qilin, a phoenix and a kitsune who're world famous as "superhero trainers"). They told him that they had been caring for his comatose body for the past 20 years, and that during that time, he had not aged.
The Four Masters wondered if the young lion was immortal like they were (they're all at least 1000 years old, give or take), but after close observation, realized that now he was awake, the lion (whom they gave the name "Richard Heart") was beginning to age... but at half the rate of a normal person.
For the next 10 years, the Four Masters took on the role of Richard's mentors... and to some extent, his fathers, as they studied, developed and refined all the powers he was soon able to exhibit.
Richard could fly. He was super strong. Super fast. Could take a lot of damage and heal quickly. And if that weren't enough, he had "light powers." He could shoot golden light from his hands or eyes, golden light that would only cause damage to anyone or anything that he intended. Meaning that he could never harm anyone by accident.
At the end of this decade of training, the Four Masters decided that Richard should leave their care and make a new life for himself. They figured he should try Diamond City, a sprawling metropolis on the West Coast of America. It was a *huge* city, filled with all kinds of business opportunities... both legit and criminal. It was becoming a hotbed for villainous activity, and was begging for a superhero to come help keep things from getting out of control.
At first, Richard didn't know if the superhero life was right for him. Sure, he had the powers, he had the training, but that didn't necessarily mean he was a superhero, or even a regular hero, deep down...
...until he witnessed the kidnapping and ransom of that one-year-old German Shepherd I mentioned earlier.
The lion stepped in, rescued the baby and turned the kidnappers over to justice. And that's when he knew... he wasn't the type to stand idly by while wrong was being committed. He had to take up the mantle of a superhero and help however, wherever and whenever he could.
Somewhere along the way, he put together a costume and gained a new name: Paladin. He was the first Guardian of Diamond City, and certainly not the last!

There's a lot to love about this guy, and he has a very fleshed out character, both in personality and backstory. You did a good job including subtle and obvious points that paint the picture about him being your setting's Flying Brick with a heart of gold. And a very nice simplistic design that works well for him!

Awwwww! Thank you so much, dude, that really means a lot. Paladin is definitely meant to be particularly lovable, so it's heartening to know that I'm off to the right start. I'm also glad you approve of his design. Sansenite's Steelbadger inspired me to have a character like that, only instead of a silver badger, I decided to go with a golden lion. And after I decided to have him be the equivalent of Superman, I remembered that gold and white are often colors associated with divinity, so that decided his color scheme. Plus, as soon as I realized I could give him a white speedo and make a tighty-whitey joke, an extra layer to his personality started to form.

He is quite lovable, yes, you did a great job on him with that. I wouldn't have guessed him to be inspired by Steelbadger since it sounded more like he was meant to be your setting's premier Flying Brick and certainly sounds a lot more like Superman but with a unique origin and backstory. Though does he have any further connections to divinity besides the colors and being trained by such individuals, or is the colors just there for his shining personality?

Thank you again! Well, Steelbadger inspired me to have a wise old superhero leader. And since I already had Striker be the equivalent of Batman, I figured, why not have a Superman equivalent? I ended up looking up quite a few Superman clips for inspiration, hence why Paladin seems more similar to him than Steel.
It's just a color scheme, yes. There for his, as you put it, shining personality. It's also meant to create another contrast against Striker, who's dressed in dark green and black.

That's always a good idea, especially if you don't have anyone else made who can take that mantle yet. But still, the outfit design usually sticks around the same exact motif no matter the character in question for Flying Bricks inspired by Superman or by others inspired by the Man of Steel. You can plainly see that in characters such as Typhoon, Steel Badger, Paladin, Halcyon, and others. Though that has made me realize I don't have a express Flying Brick for Coast City yet, huh.
But noted on that, it is quite the contrast, yes.

Huh! You're right, I don't believe I've seen that kind of character for your own series. ^^ It does help make your story unique in that respect, although I wouldn't object if you decided to make your own Flying Brick.

I mean, I do have Halycon, but he's an international Flying Brick, not one that's present primarily in or native to Coast City.

Oh, he's one of your OCs? I didn't realize that. I checked your gallery, but couldn't find him, so I take it you haven't uploaded an image of him yet? But that's a good point about him being international.

And yeah, I do need to think of one for Coast City specifically, hm...

Oh yeah, that handsome fellow! He's such a adorable fluffball, though I'm sure his non-super form is even cuter. I look forward to what you come up with for Coast City's Flying Brick. x3

Well, well, who is this hunky lion? (Or I think he's hunky. I can't see his face, but I can see that he is quite buff). Richard the hero lion! King Richard!
Though not much is known about him, I like him already. Cute that he saved a German Shepherd pup. Hmm, I wonder who that puppy could be?
Awesome he's your version of Batman. Though his bright outfit may stand out in the dark.
Or I could be very wrong.
But I like his design. His strong muscles, and his creative outfit. Though he is overdressed for a strong hero.
Haha, 'tighty whiteys'. Sounds like a Tyson reference.
He looks incredible! I love this series.

Well, "hunky" means, "(of a man) large, strong, and sexually attractive." So that actually is the right word for Paladin. His face might be partly covered, but he is supposed to be handsome underneath it. And I'm glad you noticed that his name is a reference to King Richard, otherwise known as Richard the Lion-Hearted.
I'm also glad you like him so far! There not be much known about Paladin's origins, but that almost doesn't matter, considering his current status: he's the noble leader of a group of superheroes, and acts as a "Team Dad." He's very patriarchal with his fellow supers, and even tells "dad jokes." He also loves cooking. x3
Yes, I also wonder who that puppy who be.
Batman? No, Paladin is the Superman of my characters. ^^ Striker is the Batman; his outfit is better suited to working in the dark, whereas Paladin's outfit is meant to be seen in the day.
But thank you, glad you like his design! As I was thinking him up, somehow I ended up imagining golden tights with white briefs. It seemed a little ridiculous, but I couldn't shake that image. Somehow, I knew that was Paladin's costume. But yeah, I figured you'd complain that he's overdressed.
But I realized that Paladin needs to wear pants; his role as both Leader and Father Figure demands it.
Lol, as soon as I imagined Paladin's speedo being white, I knew there were going to be Tighty Whitey jokes. So I decided to just run with it.
Thank you so much, dude! Hopefully you'll enjoy the stories themselves.

Okay, that makes sense now him fighting during the day instead of night.
Well eventually he will get out of that suit. And in his tighty whiteys.
