I think a few ideas may have been taken from Animal Crossing. In Animal Crossing, there is a rabbit named Ruby, and Redd, a fox shopkeeper, will not let you in until you become part of his "family" (I think? I kind of forgot, but it goes something like that), but by getting a membership invitation, not solving a riddle.

Honestly, all things considered, it's the happiest ending they could have gotten. Tom and Ruby are out of the Glen and alive, they saved Jay, and while it's possible Tom could go back to being the unstable Subject 6 mentioned in the notes, if he could get through the Glen's horrors while staying the same sweet, loveable cat who's at worst a bit too crowbar-happy, I'd say Ruby and Jay are in no danger from him.

gosh i loved rubyquest. nanquest too but ruby quest is definately my favorite out of the two. i wish the series had gotten a liiiittle more recognition than it does.

i found out about rubyquest though my now ex girlfriend- hah- ruby. i remember being so confused like "why is there a quest about my girlfriend"
it was quite the experience finding out what it REALLY was about to say the least.

I believe I was watching a homestuck lets read and I stumbled on a Rubyquest lets read.
I read the actual one and watch the videos. It was really cool.

aaaaaah yeah. homestuck tends to do that. i found quite a few interactive story comics from it way back.
have you ever heard of prequel? it's another really good one. i recommend it next time you want to read a story like that. just prepare to feel extremely bad for the main character. a lot. my heart still bleeds over her to this day.
i'd like to do a comic like that someday myself. i just usually lose motivation on long pieces of work, so i'm afraid to even try to begin one. don't want to suddenly drop it with no ending and disappoint anyone.

Actually no, I never heared of Prequel. 
And believe me, I just recently canceled a comic myself. I'm trying to not continue a long comic like that.
So yea, be cautious of what you're starting.
