Wow! Excellent work! The way you used the lines on the tree gives so much depth to it. For me, the lines give a sense of motion as if being alive. Your technique reminds me of Van Gogh's piece, "Starry Night".

I think you don't need to add anything, it's beautiful! And it looks hurt like it was born out of misery. I can really imagine the blood dripping out after every cut you've made (sorry if that to much of an information to share...)

Thanks
All trees fight between themselves. Some win and some lose. I prefer to think that equilibrium will be maintained!

I'm not sure how to +heart but I've looked it over and I wonder how you found time to compile such a gallery. Good work! Thanks for my inclusion as well as all the favs You might like to know that I walked my parents land today and found an up-rooted Hemlock and an old Beech that recently fell. I will do my best to turn them into artwork. I've got an old chain with missing teeth lol that I can use to cut up the roots of the hemlock. No guarantee I will find anything to work with though. I'll definitely turn a few bowls out of the trunk. It's a low quality softwood but I feel obligated to honor it's life with a few turnings. The Beech was old hollow and rotten so I'm unsure if I can salvage anything from it but I'm gonna try! Worst case, it will keep my family warm with it's firewood!

There is a little green heart in the upper left corner And it's great to see the fallen trees turned to art! Somehow, they live further in it...

Ah! I found it. That really is a wonderful collection. I'm sad to say that the Beech was too rotten to use. The hemlock will make a few nice bowls though..I hope. Unfortunately the upturned roots just had too much dirt and rocks for me to cut through Maybe in the spring I can use an axe to break it free. Until then the snow will make it all but impossible. How I miss the color green

Thanks, I haven't been too busy with scratchboard as of late. Been focusing on woodturning. No doubt I will get back into 2D art at some point.

very cool. i don't think i have the patience for scratchboard myself. You have some great textures and very effective gradations of value here, especially on the gnarly tree. it looks very three dimensional.

Thanks, Scratchboard can be a very Zen..almost hypnotic medium.I find the process very relaxing. The result is just a bonus. It's only tedious if you are anticipating the outcome rather than enjoying the moment. BTW, Thanks for the watch!

Lovely work, I love line art in all it forms. Personally I would leave it just as it is. "The ultimate refinement is not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left that can be removed".

Thanks, I appreciate it!
Scratchboard is great. You can use a brush, quill, sandpaper..the list goes on. If you try it I suggest using a quality board. Good stuff has a thicker coating of clay and allows you to work into it over and over. I use Esdee but I have heard that Ampersand is just as good.
Thanks for all the favorites

After looking at your gallery I'd say you will love it. You can use a quill, brush or even washes just like paper but then you can dig back in with a scratching tool...or sandpaper etc. It really is limitless. I suggest Esdee brand scratchboard. It's reasonably priced but accepts ink better than anything else I've tried. Great Gallery btw.
