Description [SPOILER WARNING!]
Oh my god, this was Soooo Funny!
okay..Okay, allow me to explain this funny scene from Ghostbusters.
(ahem..)

This comic panel was taken from a receantly released
Ghostbusters comic book by IDW entitled: "Ghostbusters: Deviation"
with is an Elseworld's story telling what might've happened
if the Ghostbusters HADN'T crossed the streams at the end of the first film.
(Spoilers: Manhattan Island literally goes to hell.)

Anyway, Gozer (as Stay Puft) reigns supreme,
and everyone HATES the Ghostbusters for being colossal failures.

However, as it turns out, GOZER doesn't like it's predicament, either.
as (no small wonder) It HATES the form Ray chose, and wants to undo everything.
(yep. even being a total warlord over all of humanity isn't worth it
IF said warlord has to remain a "Marshmallow Man" for all eternity.)

The Ghostbusters ultimately decide that Time Travel is the best solution,
and enlist the help of a Time Ghost to aid them in this endeavor.
HOWEVER..the Ghostbusters don't trust Gozer (Understandable)
and, devise a backup plan. Juuust in case Gozer plans on choosing
a new, more lethal Destructor form, rather than just return home as agreed.

So, NOW, we come to the point of the gag above.
Peter presents their ultimatum against Gozer: IF it doublecrossed them,
then they will choose a Destructor Form "EVEN WORSE" than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
the scene goes as followed:

Gozer: "MY GOD. WHAT IS THAT?"

Peter Venkman: "It's called "Loofajoe Rectangleshorts."

Gozer: "RECTANGLESHORTS?"

Peter Venkman: "All that YOU need to know is that it's Adorable, and Ridiculous."

Winston Zeddemore: "And, you'll be trapped in it FOREVER."

So, anyway. Gozer tries to brush this threat off.
as it knows that time travel doesn't work that way.
what Gozer DIDN'T know, was that the Ghostbusters ALREADY went back in time
without Gozer's knowledge, and..Well, see the image above.

Okay, now..You've got to admit: This is Flipping HILARIOUS!
the Ghostbusters tricked Gozer with the threat of having it
turn into a satire of SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS if it doesn't return to it's own dimension.
and, guess what? (Spoiler Alert!) It WORKED!
Gozer forfeited the whole fight, and returned to it's own dimension.
because, hey. even for an Inter-dimensional
Demonic Demigod..you have to draw a limit SOMEWHERE.
and, well..that limit was "Spongebob"
(which i can understand, I mean. who WOULD want to spend eternity
trapped as a giant Spongebob Parody?! that sounds like a true Living Hell, if you ask me.)

Anyone who can't stand Spongebob, and loves Ghostbusters
will agree that THIS was the best scene ever.

The Ghostbusters should do an evil laugh at Gozer's expense

OR, a sinister variation of Spongebob's trademark 'annoying laugh'

you know..just to rub it in a bit more.

I think that would be any villain's undoing.

Fortunately, Gozer was smarter than that.
It may've been willing to assume the form of a "Michelin Man" Marshmallow Sailor..but, NOT a dorky cartoon sponge.

Some things just aren't worth being overlord of the earth for.

The most amusing thing is that if this can be treated serious,
then Spongebob may actually have at least ONE positive reason to exist.

his very image warps of demons and dark gods from destroying the earth.
so, for that reason alone..I can honestly say: "I LOVE Spongebob" with a straight face.

At least he has a purpose.

Yes. annoying characters are only likable if they are antagonizing evil characters
(EX: If the Annoying Orange was sent to 1944 Germany, and latched itself to Adolf Hitler.)

I myself find that I like Spongebob better in episodes
where he is giving Plankton a hard time when he is being especially evil and cruel.

though, in THIS case. It isn't Spongebob himself,
but the very concept of the character that defeated Gozer in this 'Alternate Ending' to Ghostbusters.

It's just..So Amusing.
I don't know if the comic was trying to mock or homage Spongebob with this ending.

but, the fact that Spongebob was enough to make Gozer leave
without putting up a fight was just too perfect for words (though, I DID do my best, here.)

Then SpongeBob should feel honored that he inadvertently became Gozer's Kryptonite.
