"SERIOUSLY..It isn't."
OKAY, as far as 'Jak & Daxter' goes, I am still a novice fan (so, I don't know too much.)
but, what I DO know is that ever since 'Jak II', Jak has been the "Angry Rebel" type,
while Daxter is the wisecracking sidekick he keeps him mellow, and doesn't let him get TOO extreme in his emotions.
But, when DAXTER give you this look. the "I-So-Totally-Hate-Your-Guts" look.
when the jokester stops being funny, and starts being just a serious as his angry friend..
..Theeen, You are in some serious trouble, pal.
If ANYTHING, this proves that Daxter isn't a slacker ALL the time. he CAN get serious whenever he wants to.

Daxter really sells the humor of the image.
the game series depicts him as the usual "funny sidekick"
who'd rather not go risking his life saving the world, and complains when Jak does go be a hero.
BUT, when Daxter stops being a coward, and give you a face that says: "I'm gonna beat you like a jungle drum."
then, you clearly did SOMETHING wrong, and should do any of the options that you just stated.
I just find it funny seeing this dark expression on Daxter.
I'm so used to his zany and cute looks, that him looking 'serious' seems odd.

I love moments like these in the Jak & Daxter games, it shows that Daxter, even though he's funny and comical, tends be serious at times. It shows him to be more human.

Even comedy films can be serious sometimes.
One thing I know of Pixar movies, is that the teaser trailers are usually pure humor to drag the audience in.
while official trailers released later introduced some plot with drama, as well as comedy.
and, the actual films always have one scene near the end where the funny characters get serious.
like how in 'Monsters University', Mike and Sulley's friendship was forged when they both had a talk
over their respected problems (Mike not being scary, and Sulley being terrified of failure.)
even Monsters Inc. had that one scene where Sulley admitted that helping Boo (the little girl)
was more important than ant 'scare record', or even his job and career as a Scarer.
(Mike stayed mad for awhile, but he soon came to his senses and returned to help Sulley with his personal mission.)
Jak and Daxter was no different. in Jak 3, when it was revealed that Damas was really Jak's father (and, died before realizing this fact) and, that Veger was personally responsible for Jak being separated from his dad.
Daxter put all his fears aside, and WANTED to chase after Veger into unknown dangers just to get back at what he did to his friend. (Even Jak was surprised at this, and pointed it out.)
If anything, it shows that despite his personality flaws and "vices." Daxter isn't selfish or self-centered.
he DOES care about Jak, and Jak's feelings more than he does himself, or HIS well being.

Even the comic relief characters need to have serious moments every now and then.

Shows that they are "human"
Even Daxter doesn't think about Liquor, Hot Girls and being Famous ALL the time.
he does care about Jak's feelings, and dislikes it when others hurt him.
When THAT happens, he forgets to be scared and actually charges into danger.

I'm not so sure about the "was", anymore. as I read up that an 'Even Wells'
planned on making a NEW Jak game, which was more of a Reboot of the series
(BUT, he was sidetracked with 'The Last of Us', and never got around to it..YET.)
Plus, I checked up on Max Casella (Voice of Daxter) bio. and, he's apparently STILL acting.

If there is remake then I will pre-order it once they announce it. Plus I have the whole series for PS2, the Daxter game for PSP, the collection for both PS3 and PSVita.

I have 'Daxter PSP' and the Jak and Daxter HD Collection (the previous PS2 titled remastered fro the PS3 system).
