Description
Yep. It's another cartoon from your childhood being given the REBOOT treatment.(This time it's an Amazon Exclusive, which is LIKE NetFlix..in that it isn't televised.)
I admit, I grow tiresome of all these reboots of classic cartoons,
which only deliver garbage, and stifle original programming from being made.
BUT, this one sorta has be sold on something very creative: Boris & Natasha HATE each other.
Fans of the original series may recall that these two were ALWAYS together,
and Natasha's pet name of "Boris, Darlin'k" seemed to imply a romantic relationship.
So, the idea of these two DISLIKING each other, and claiming to "Work Better ALONE" is just hilarious.
At first, I thought that after YEARS of constant failure they just split up,
But the series is implying this is their FIRST TIME ever working with a partner.
(Soo.."Boris & Natasha: Origins" meets "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", then.)
So, There has only been ONE episode so far, and they haven't found common AT ALL.
OKAY, Reboot. I'll humor you, and keep watching to see where you go with this.
But, you'd BETTER not be wasting my time.

Oh wonderful. That's just what the original was missing. A will they won't they sub plot. Because apparently we can't have couples just be couples without it turning into a high school sitcom.

Well, to be fair, the original Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoon came out at a time
when television was a new medium, and cartoons on TV was unheard of.
They were still refining their craft.
But, I do find it inspired to have Boris & Natasha be "The Odd Couple",
and have their schemes backfire simply because they are bickering with each other.
Reboots should only be done if you are adding something new,
and not rehashing what was done before.
THIS..is New. The Reboot has a purpose.

I find it utterly uninspired to be truthful. I've seen this kind of relationship done a million times before in a million different I cartoons. It's done to death, unoriginal and in my opinion, quite lazy because it's a quick and easy way to enforce drama.
I'll say now that I likely wouldn't be as hostile towards it if I didn't just recently find out about the original show and didn't find it quite refreshing how little attention is paid to the relationship between they two. It's not a relationship I see very often.
So to switch a relationship that's I rather enjoy and have never seen before to one that bugs the hell out of me a and have seen a million times, kinda irks me.
I understand that the show needs to be updated, but why they took this rout, I'll never quite understand.
If you like it, all the power to you. Honestly. No judgement here. But to me, the whole thing stinks of lazy writing....and not the fun kind like the original.

Oh, trust me, I'll make a joke about that soon.
But, I will say this much: I expect Natasha to have superpowers,
two other sisters, and to routinely fight a super-intelligent ape

I also expect Boris to grow another tail....I mean....
I was surprised they wrote a fanfiction about these two's origins. Boris mentions good old mom several times in the old series, and so does Natasha in the new. so whazzup now?

To be fair, Continuity was never something Rocky & Bullwinkle held too strongly.
But, that was the nature of the series: Satire, and 4th Wall Demolition.
As such, I wasn't too bothered by the changes made in the Rocky & Bullwinkle reboot,
as it is Rocky & Bullwinkle. the status quo was changes all the time.
(which I love about the series. You can't hardly go wrong with R&B.)
What I do find jarring are the extreme faces the characters make sometimes.
It takes "double takes" to another level, and can at times be off-putting.
But, it is a pretty minor negative for me.
Though, I also miss the in-between segments from the old show.
the Fractured Fairy Tales/Aesop & Son, and "Mr. Know-It-All"
Their absence has left a noticeable void.
(I won't list of Mr. Peabody & Sherman, as that goes without saying.)

indeed, it's hard to catch a "normal" face in the new series. I made several screenshots, and there are like 2 from 100 which r...usual.
plus they go out of character pretty often. pretty. often.

Surprisingly, that all could make sense. Apes a little odd though, were'd you get that idea?

It's the plot of The Powerpuff Girls (a 90s cartoon that was ALSO rebooted recently.)
a Scientist creates 'perfect little girls' by mixing chemicals in a laboratory.
Natasha's origins in this reboot was clearly a parody of this.
(Just as Boris' origins was a mild parody of The Jungle Book.)

well they got canadain june furrey to voice the new rocky [Tara Strong] so i'm alright with that. ben Diskin is doing an alright job as Boris. Rachel Butera is doing an alright Natasha. its weird just not herring June anymore.

I am sure people felt the same way about the Looney Tunes characters after Mel Blanc died
(who June Foray co-starred with as the voice of Witch Hazel and Granny.)
But, I will give this to June..to was a survivor.,
as she was 99 years old when she eventually died.
(and, most are lucky to reach their 80s before they pass, so June Foray was a Legend.)
On to DreamWorks Rocky & Bullwinkle.
While some wild take expression unnerve me at times,
I can't really say anything bad about R&B, since..well, just look at the original series.
R&B was also a self-aware cartoon that satired things (as Jay Ward was that type of person)
so, given the tone, even the Live-Action film from years ago was faithful.
You literally can't go wrong with Rocky & Bullwinkle.

oh of course you really can't. plus jims daughter is co-producing the new reboot anyways. I[m glad the role is being handled by something who I tihnk works in Junes legacy. even if Tara is doing her best June as Rocky impression.

Well, Tara has experience voicing "boy" characters,
so her voicing Rocky not only made sense, but was a no-brainer.
I'm hoping to see more of Boris & Natasha in the series
(and, not just have the "Discount Amanda Waller" overshadow them)
Since "B&N" are just as important as the heroes,
and could carry their own show if they needed to.

they could.
it feels kind of right, really for tara. she is the modern day June.
